Help! I want to be Kirstie Allsopp at Christmas but I don't know where to start

I want to have a go at doing something 'crafty' decoration-wise for Christmas this year; something that my DC can preferably help with a bit and we can get out again every year.

Can anyone give me an idea of something easy to try? I've not really done anything more difficult than sewing on a button before Smile. Something we can start on now-ish and do a bit to now and again until December....

How about salt-dough decorations? I'm sure Kirstie did some on her "homemade Christmas" show once. Kids can definitely help.

Just had to drop in to say, saw this thread title on active convos and it really made me smile! Good luck in your Kirstie quest!

Buy her book?

Collect pinecones, spray them gold, sprinkle with glitter and stick in a centre piece?

TheWoollybacksWife · 20/09/2012 09:39

What about an Advent Calendar kit like this one from Etsy? The pockets and embellishments can be stuck on or sewn on.

Pinecones season is now - we have a tree near us littering the pavement.

There might still be some hanging about on trees but don't leave it too late! Wink

I had a go at salt dough decorations with my 2 year old and he loved it. They double up as nice present tags as well, you can buy Samps and ink them afterwards, google salt dough and Christmas, lots of ideas.

catfart · 20/09/2012 09:46

Samps....stamps!

badtasteflump · 20/09/2012 10:28

Ooh! Had to go out but just got back and am really SmileSmileSmile at all the responses!

And I love all the ideas - I want to do all of them Smile Thank you!

Is it too early to start looking forward to Christmas? I was fiddling around with my Ipod playlists last night and started making a Christmas one Blush

badtasteflump · 20/09/2012 11:52

I have hama beads Smile

I'm going to have a google to see if I can find some Christmassy patterns - thanks.

I LOVE Christmas and making things...what about a nice indoor wreath or two

OOOH!

Or if you like vintage style, how about these.

here

I made some but used a printed out pic of DD in black and white...which I touched up to look like a retouched vintage pic...we still have it now.

I did see somewhere (probably pintrest) some bead snowflakes, might try to make those with the girls this year, using pipecleaners and beads. Looked good when they made them!

girlywhirly · 20/09/2012 16:18

You can make icicles too with clear or iridescent crystal beads.
