Elf on a shelf question

Onadietcolabreak · 08/09/2012 13:03

He just arrived in the post, but I was expecting a certificate and/or letter with him. Does anyone have any good template links?

This summery weather isn't going to put me off my Christmas fantasising! Wink

er. whats an elf on a shelf?

buzzgirly · 08/09/2012 15:12

If you go to the official elf on the shelf website, you can register your elf and then get access to certificates/letters from Santa. There are also loads of different elf sites which you can google.

this is such a great idea Im going to buy one for my nephew, he turned one this year so just the right time I think to start it off.

Onadietcolabreak · 09/09/2012 12:43

Thanks buzz didn't read the box fully Blush it's Fab! Google it, or theres loads of stuff on Pinterest. Thought the elf did look a little cheep, might jazz him up before he 'arrives'
I think I'm going to enjoy it more than the kids Wink

Which is the best elf to get? A lot of them look a bit freaky - need one that is cute and kindly rather than nightmare-inducing really!

Onadietcolabreak · 09/09/2012 12:53

The 'official' elf is quite cute, but looks a bit cheep IMO. He looks cute in a vintage way, he's very smiley.

Smiley = good.

Cheap-looking = not so good.

Any suggetsions?

You might like to suggest I check my post for typos . . . Grin

I'm going to give this a go this year, but I'm going to use a more Scandi looking Elf that I bought from the Jorvik centre in York years ago. I've seen them around in stately home gift shops and posh garden centres, that sort of establishment, and they're not half so sinister looking!

reastie · 10/09/2012 13:31

Mine arrived today too. Can I admit he looks a little evil IMO Blush I got the one with dark skin and black hair - didn't realise they had different options as didn't get a choice.

Can I hijack and ask an elf on the shelf related question - I've just read the book and it says children can't touch it as it takes away the magic - do people follow this or ignore it? Can't imagine DD being able to resist touching it Grin maybe this is as it's so cheap it falls apart easily

Anyone searching for elves, the 'peppermint elves' on ebay are very cutesy and can handle dc love Grin

buzzgirly · 11/09/2012 08:43

I agree that the official elf does look a bit cheap. I bought that version mainly for the book as I'm rubbish at explaining things to dc.

I won't let dd touch it, didn't last year either, as it will get lost, drawn on, be given a bath.

Also the elf on the shelf has a Facebook page (yes I'm that sad I looked!). He posts every few weeks at different locations like the beach during summer, going back to school.

I think I may be an elf addict!
