I'm looking for a amazing version, that could be kept as an heirloom maybe?
I, myself have a rather plain boring copy that I got from a charity shop, but this year, I would love a copy for my DD2, to hand down to her dc hopefully.

I shall watch this thread with interest and hope someone has some suggestions. When DD was born we started a new tradition, that the eldest male in the house reads The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. It would be nice to have an heirloom version, at the moment we just have a very normal copy.

I like this one:
www.amazon.co.uk/Night-Before-Christmas-Pop-up-book/dp/068983683X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347014482&sr=8-1
It isn't as elaborate as his other books, but still beautiful. One to read with younger children though, as the pop ups can be delicate.

Onadietcolabreak · 07/09/2012 11:51

Thanks DoubleMum, I had looked at that one, but am a bit worried it might get damaged by my overzealous toddler! Maybe if I put it away with the Xmas decorations? Is it really good?

World, that's a lovely tradition!

You would have to be careful with a toddler, Sabuda books are total works of art so they are delicate. All the pop ups are white in this one - silly you can't see a few pages on Amazon. It might be one for when your kids are a little older if they have a history of being a little rough with books. (I had one who was, and one who was an angel!).

I have this one which got good reviews but it's written quite old for young ones and my kids lose interest!

Watching thread with interest as I'd love a version for young kids

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 07/09/2012 13:16

We have this one www.amazon.co.uk/Night-Before-Christmas-Clement-Moore/dp/023075029X/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347020097&sr=1-4

It's the original poem and the illustrations are lovely.

gingerpinz · 07/09/2012 15:55

We've had the Sabuda one since DS1 was tiny and only bring it out to read to them on Christmas Eve. We all absolutely love it, so beautiful, but definitely one to be read to little ones then kept out of reach!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/09/2012 18:59

I've got a M&S copy which has the traditional verse but the illustrations are a bit 'cartoony'.
One day I'll invest in the proper book.

BTW do you all have the traditional annual arguement of going through the reindeers' names and be asked "Where's Rudolph?"
Then explaining that TNBC is 190 years old and Rudolph considerable less) Hmm

Tikkabillajive · 07/09/2012 23:59

This one is beautiful.

Onadietcolabreak · 08/09/2012 08:06

ginger yes, that sounds sensible, I don't think it would last a week on the book shelf with DD2!

tikka that looks a lovely one, shame I can't see inside either of them, I think that feature is fab on amazon. I may how to order both to see which is better and end up keeping both return one Wink

70isa not had that one yet, but might crop up this year as DS is at that annoying lovely, question everything, esp' at 5 in the morning, phase!
Thanks for the warning, I think I'll tell him, Rudolph was sick, and had to stay in bed at home in the north pole that night Wink I think explaining its age and the fact that Rudolph wasn't invented then may lead to yet more questions Wink

We have the same one as fruitsalad but in hardback. It has an accompanying 3-song CD by 'Peter, Paul and Mary'. Illustrations are absolutely delightful and original poem. It really is lovely.

Has anyone come across a version that you can have personalised? I thought I'd bought one but somehow my addled brain managed to mix up night before Christmas and a Christmas carol. Blush

I have promised it as a present for my friends brand new DS' first Christmas. Sorry for the hijack and all help appreciated.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/09/2012 21:42

Rudolph- verse written 1939

NBC -written 1822

You've got plenty of time to come up with the "Where's Rudolph" answers.

I made mine Google because they didn't believe me Grin

I have this one, its beautiful. The pictures are really traditional & is the original poem. I put it away out of the reach of little hands until Christmas to keep it lovely & hope it will make it seem more special every Christmas :)

SuperLemonCrush · 09/09/2012 20:15

We have this one - just perfect! www.amazon.co.uk/Night-Before-Christmas-Clement-Moore/dp/1406302007

I have nearly every edition going. The Ingpen illustrated one would make a lovely family copy. See the website here to see inside a bit.

I love Ingpen's illustrations. He's just magical. Do check out his other illustrated classics too.

ISeeThreadPeople · 09/09/2012 20:19

Actually NO, look to see inside the Ingpen book.

hermioneweasley · 09/09/2012 20:23

Another vote for the sabuda one. We've had it since DS was 3 and he is in awe of it so still in good condition. It's absolute,y gorgeous and magical!

oldraver · 11/09/2012 13:08

If you can find it get the one illustrated by Penny Ives. It has the most amazing circular pictures that change from one illustration to another

Onadietcolabreak · 11/09/2012 13:18

I've just brought this one here

It looks lovely, and it has one pop up at the end. I did order the Sabuda one a few days ago, shall I cancel or end up with both?! Grin
