Any experiences - anyone been to either - Copenhagen has the Advantage of having super cheap flights and a friend who lives nearby but Vienna looks oh so very pretty!

Any ideas on places to stay - must see etc.

Thank you !

Or Malmo ? Malmo would be good as friend lives in Lund?

Or the ones in Germany - they look tempting too - infact give me your christmas market recommendations here now!

I've been to Frankfurt the last 2 years and it's lovely. Would love to go to Cologne though.

I think Bibbity means a record for the earliest Christmas Market Thread,

I'm very Envy I'd love a Christmas Market, we manage a trip to the South Bank to their market.(The hog roasts smell lush, even to a vegetarian) Blush

Oh I seee thanks all we have decided on Copenhagen this year purely because flights are cheap and friend is nearby and want to take DD . DH seems to imagine Frankfurt or Cologne would involve more alcohol so should be a couply thing!

70isaLimitNotaTarget my friend keeps raving about Southbank and it's food 10 years ago when I worked down there it was nigh on barren - will definitely visit love a hog roast. I can recommend the Christmas Market in Winchester if that's any help?

Cologne is lovely but gets VERY busy.

Aachen also very nice and traditional.

Basically any city in Germany will have a fairly good market - they run usually from the end of Nov (usually the weekend before Advent starts) till Christmas Eve.

YY to lots of booze in german markets - try a feuerzangenbowle - a spirit laced flambeed gluehwein.

Have a look here www.weihnachtsmarkt.essen.de/de/startseite_1/startseite_21.jsp for some idea of what will be in a german market (this is one of my local ones)
