Super easy ideas for gammon joint in slow cooker

Any ideas please that utilise what I'm likely to already have in. Not going to brave any supermarket!!!

Also do I need to soak it over night?

How will I know when it's done in the slow cooker. It's 1.9kg.

Basic questions I know but last attempt was a bit of a disaster. Used diet coke and ham literally fell to pieces.

Thank you!

I do mine in apple juice. I don't usually soak it, but always buy the same ones (either morrisons or Aldi) so I know they won't be too salty. I just plonk it in the crockpot, pour one litre carton of juice over it, and set it away. Turn it over after a couple of hours so the sticking out bit goes under the juice. I find that one about the size of yours takes between 5 and 6 hours on high - I cut a little bit off and have a taste - they get juicy and lovely but if you leave it too long it goes rubbery, so I keep testing ever fifteen minutes or so from about 4.5 hours in and take it out when I judge it done Xmas Grin

You need full fat coke and it sounds like you need to take it out earlier than last time. Personally I simmer in a saucepan for an hour , periodically checking of it needs a top up of coke. I've read that ginger ale and full fat cherry coke are also great alternatives.

Just realised yours is 1.9 kg. I would google how long to boil based on weight as my 1 hour ham is much smaller.

Thank you all. Cooking in apple juice but just realised plastic film sleeve is still on around it- bugger!
