any Christmas cards with a Nativity scene!

I'm more than a little shocked at this - where are they all??

The Daily Fail had this to say on the subject.

MNHQ may still have a few boxes from the other year which had a nativity scene on Grin

OtterBaubles · 23/12/2011 23:43

Three years ago I noticed that of the 70 or so cards we received, not one of them had anything vaguely related to the nativity on. Not a star, shepherd or wise man, let alone a crib scene.

I became a bit obsessed the following year. Xmas Blush I'm not even at all religious, only the vaguest of believer. The best choice was either in the Charity card shop that appears every year for about a month, or in a local, very old-fashioned, department store.

They are out there, but you have to hunt them down. Xmas Grin

Well I bought a pack of 10 from Paperchase in the end because I became desperate.

I noticed today when hanging up my cards I have reindeer, Father C, bloody Hello Kitty but where are Mary, Joseph and Jesus?! I did find a couple of cards that had the 3 wise men, but I think thta was because they can be made blingy Xmas Hmm

I've had 3 Wise Men, Nativity scenes, Mary, and stars Smile As well as Hello Kitty, Lego, Santa, Rudolph etc etc

But how many of us are practising Christians anyway? It's a bit hypocritical to want religious cards if we're not actually religious!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 24/12/2011 00:28

Most regular shops haven't sold such cards for years.........you need a Christian book shop as a best bet - though the 10 "Christian" cards I have (out of 57) are from Help For Heroes (slightly cutesty ones but it is Mary and a Donkey), Action for Children, Alhzheimers Society, Mercy Ships, our church craft group, pass for 3 of them, Sainsbury's one has a King (not very blinged) and the Morrisons/Save the Children on is the walk to Bethlehem.

Marks and Spencers.

All mine were Nativity this year.

Sinkingfeeling · 24/12/2011 01:09

We've had lots of cards with nativity scenes, but we do every year. It does happen when some of your friends are practising Christians. There's plenty here.

startail · 24/12/2011 01:14

We've got several this year, but some of those are from people who would have made an effort to find them.
I remember it being very hard to find them in the late 80's, because I always wanted just 1 for a church going great aunt.
She was an amazing old lady (DD1 is called after her). Lived to 91. Never married, but wore her engagement ring to the day she died (her fiancé was killed in WW1). She was a teacher in the rough end of the city and I'm sure she stood no nonsense.

PinkPepper · 24/12/2011 01:15

there was a nice one in M&S and I saw some in oxfam bookstore. I was actually finding it hard to just find more 'seasonal greetings' type cards with no nativity/wise men scenes

spiderslegs · 24/12/2011 01:32

I have loads, you need to buy Medici cards - from bookshops usually, Renaissance paintings of the nativity, DF & I compete each year to see who's is most holy.

I always send nativity scenes.

Baby Jesus loves me.

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 24/12/2011 01:33

I had a load left over from last year from M&S.

I think a Bethlehem scene is normally more typical than a nativity one, but have been given quite a few Mary + Jesus ones.

daenerysstormborn · 24/12/2011 01:40

i have ones from the co-op with mary, jospeh and baby jesus on, it's a pack of 16, 8 of that design and 8 with 3 kings.

acsec · 24/12/2011 09:27

BIWI I'm a Catholic so I like Nativity scene cards, especially for my parents.

Spiderslegs I was looking for the Medici ones, I usually get them, this year I couldn't find any :(

I think where I live just may be crap for holy cards!

There are real trends in cards though - one year every single card my parents received (bar one or two!) had a robin on it! This year it seems to be an even split between penguins and "baubles hanging on a branch".
