For me it's:

  • electric blue Christmas lights. They seem to be everywhere and (is it just me?) I don't find them very Christmassy!
  • men who run shops selling model railway accessories look just as geeky as you would imagine. (To be fair, I did a tour of 4 such shops this morning to find something my Dad wants and I think that is a fair sample Grin )

and a soppy one:

  • the joy of sharing Christmas with a 2yo. DS is excited and I am even more excited for him! He keeps talking about how Father Christmas is coming and I'm a bit worried that he thinks that Father Christmas is coming to spend the day with us on Sunday!

What have you noticed for the first time this Christmas?

that the fact that 11yo ds doesn't want to help make the gingerbread house with dd and ds2 isn't to be taken as a personal slight, just growing into a young man with more cool things to occupy him... Xmas Sad

Christmas bedding! Why would you bother- what next, Christmas wallpaper?

ilikeyoursleeves · 23/12/2011 20:48

SESthebrave · 23/12/2011 20:56

unreasonablemuch - Xmas Grin I think that's a fair survey then!

sausages - Christmas bedding?! Xmas Shock

timetosmile - I need to make the most of the next 9 years with DS then I guess!

Ilikeyoursleeves - I wonder whether this will this be the warmest Christmas Day on record?

I hate those blue lights.

Neighbour across the road from me has them, flickering, All The Fucking Time and it gets on my wick. They are that bright I can still see the efect in my bedroom, with the winter, fully lines curtains drawn. I'm having to resort to throwing a couple of towels over the rail to block most of it out.

runningmonkey · 23/12/2011 22:08

That Christmas is sooo exciting when you have a small person to be Santa for Xmas Grin

Bethshine82 · 23/12/2011 22:15

mole me too, I feel your pain.
I keep thinking it is emergency sirens when I wake up in the middle of the night and the blue lights are flashing on the house opposite!

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 23/12/2011 22:19

I love those blue lights! But I would be fucked off if they shone through my window! I sometimes wonder just how common I actually am.

The thing I discovered this Christmas is that I am completely sucked into the whole thing just as so many other are. And there is only me, DH and 7 yr old DS - who is trying to fall asleep in our bed and all his bloody presents are in the top cupboard in the room!! So I cannot do any wrapping of his gifts tonight. That means I have discovered a second thing this Christmas: do not put DS and presents in the same room on the night that you wish to wrap the presents.

....er the lack of snow?
Going to be 12 or 13 degrees here on Christmas Day- last year it was minus that!!
I know it's a pain, but if it should snow anytime, it should snow on Christmas!!!
My dc want to go sledging!

Having 'proper' Christmas with turkey and all the trimmings..... Past two years, we have went out for curry....
Can't wait!
