Mary Berry Christmas cake kit a bargain at Tesco.

I've already bought and made one when they were half price. Usually I bake from scratch, but as Christmas cake is something I make because others like it, not me, I was happy to cut a few corners. The kids helped make it. It baked OK, but the temp and time didn't seem right and it was a little over done. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a bit of a trim though.

Today I was doing my Tesco shop and they were reduced to £2. I bought one and have baked my Dad a cake now as well. I reduced the temp to 100 and the time to 3 and a half hours (instead of 4 to 4 and a half) and it looks perfect.

Bargain extra gift for my Dad.

I didn't know they did Mary berry kits - I think she is ace

My friend bought the kit and the result was awful. Timings seemed wrong and was tasteless!

i bought one at £3 on monday! the swines.

Cake looks quite good, but i replaced the fruit in it with my own fruit that i'd soaked.

Erm.. I bought Eight of the things, at £2 each I'll be in fruit cake for months. I cant make a basic fruit cake for less than two quid.

I looked at these, but it just seemed like a bag of dried fruit, you had to buy practically everything else on top.

You only needed to buy the eggs, butter, orange and lemon. The rest was in there.

I bought one last week for £3.

Fair enough then, for some reason I thought you had to buy the flour too
