For boring reasons we are having ice cream for pudding on Xmas day - is the only thing we all like. I have chocolate and vanilla. How can I jazz it up to be Christmassy?

winnybella · 22/12/2011 00:45

Buche de Noel? Xmas log I think it's called.

SinicalSanta · 22/12/2011 00:53

SinicalSanta · 22/12/2011 00:53

the kids will like it anyway

ObiWanWithBellsOn · 22/12/2011 06:59

Spoon some warmed mincemeat over the vanilla, or hot chocolate sauce?

Go mad wiith edible glitter and sparklers.

Serve it with brownies (if anyone like them).

likelucklove · 22/12/2011 08:29

Apparently in Waitrose/M&S there is a ice-cream shapeshifter gingerbread house? My DM is getting it for me because I'm the fussy one Grin Pretty sure it was Waitrose but would check online.

EustaciaVye · 22/12/2011 09:12

Crushed maltesers mixed with edible glitter sprinkled on top. Reindeer dust?

wahwahwah · 22/12/2011 09:37

I did see a recipe where you mix some mincemeat in with vanilla icecream and freeze it.

Make this bad boy! It's really simple and looks great when done!

girlywhirly · 22/12/2011 10:38

We are having a little mince pie next to my home-made vanilla ice cream, which is all we can manage after lunch!

For you, put a Cadbury flake on top of each portion of ice cream to look like a yule log, a faint dusting of icing sugar and edible glitter to look like snow and frost, some sort of marzipan or edible robin? (Look at Christmas cake decs for these) You can get boxes of flakes to put in ice cream, they are a bit shorter than the usual ones.

DCs will be having chocolate cups (paint melted chocolate in little silicone cake cases, then peel off cases)
Milky Bar chocolate pudding in base then a scoop of ice-cream.
Crunchie pieces to decorate.

And the finishing touch- chocolate teaspoons from HomeSense.

Move over Heston B- your nemesis is here! Xmas Grin

We got the sainsburys santa house ice cream, mainly choc + vanilla with a little strawberry running through as the door. Plus some sugar decorations provided which you put on at the end. The kids loved it, fairly big, lasted two meals.

mathanxiety · 22/12/2011 15:38

Pavlova/meringue on the bottom with ice cream on top, sprinkles over the ice cream in red and green if you can find them, or crumbled Flake.

HoHoOpotomus · 22/12/2011 16:33

Ma buche de Noel
(basically a meringue, chocolate mousse and poached pear roll.)

this is totally scrumptious - it is made in 3 parts so is a little time consuming and needs to be made the day before, but it's is actually very simple and one of the nicest desserts I've ever had

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 22/12/2011 16:34

yes to baileys - crush some maltesers on too.
or crumble warm mince pies into the vanilla ice cream - sounds a bit weirdy but it does work.

yellowflowers · 22/12/2011 19:13

Great ideas thank you

Melted white chocolate and coconut on top.

DogQuestions · 22/12/2011 19:36

Sparklers

effingwotsits · 22/12/2011 19:52

Heat up apples and berries in a pan with a little water and sugar and pour it hot over the ice cream. Smile

MrsMuddyPuddles · 22/12/2011 20:16

Serve with a candy cane garnish?

Strawbezza · 22/12/2011 20:40

Heat up a tin of cherry pie filling and pour it over vanilla ice-cream. It's absolutely delicious. Serve with shortbread fingers for even more decadence.
