I'm such a crap mum - forgot to order one of my DS's main presents!

We have had such a lousy year and this will be the first year without my lovely mum. I've been so self obsessed and wallowing in that, that I forgot to order him a lens for his camera. He asked me today why I hadn't asked him which one to order and I admitted I had forgotten. I have now ordered it (will now go slightly overdrawn now) and hopefully, it will arrive on Friday. I just couldn't bear to see the look on his face. He hasn't actually asked for much so feel like a cow!

Ok. you are definitely not a cow. Losing a parent is profoundly distressing. I hope it will arrive, but if not, you tried. You need to grieve. It's only natural. Please have a lovely Christmas.
I've gone overdrawn too. Xmas Blush

You've ordered it. It's on its way. Judging by the sophistication of the present, your son is old enough to understand.

Sorry that this is your first year without your mum. It's hard, isn't it. My father in law died in October this year, so it's a first for us, too. It is a situation that takes so long to come to terms with. Forgive yourself for forgetting. Give child a hug, and take one for yourself. (( ))

How old is he? I mean, is he old enough to understand that you're missing your Mum and a bit distracted this year?

Hopefully it'll arrive in time and he might have forgotten your temporary memory lapse. Xmas Smile

MmeReindor · 21/12/2011 21:04

oh, don't worry about it. Sound like he is a young adult (going by the present) so able to understand that you were distracted and forgot.

Sorry about your loss.

He is 13 but a very grown up 13. He does realise how much I'm missing her because they were very close. A few weeks ago he said that he wasn't really looking forward to Christmas and I said neither was I but we had to make the most of it for the sake of DD (she's just turned 10). We moved 7 doors way from my mum just 2 months before she died. We now have to pass her old house everyday. It has been refurbished by the landlord and is being let again.

I must stop wallowing and get on with my life. I'm actually very lucky.

oh, Vicky. That is hard.

He sounds really sweet. Hope his present gets there in time. What kind of camera does he have? Impressed that a 13yo has one that requires an extra lens.

vickyw11 · 21/12/2011 21:23

His got a Canon 500 (?). He saved up for himself and brought a refurbished one. The lens he wanted was a fisheye. He is into rollerblading and his friends get him to make videos and paste on Youtube. He does also take normal photos and wants to be photographic journalist. (Fingers crossed).

He sounds just so brilliant. The thing will come either before Christmas or after. Doesn't really matter. Look after yourselves. That's the main thing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum :( It will be a tough Christmas, but all you can do is try your best for each other and DD. It must be really hard having to go past her house everyday and see someone else in it. Life can be shitty at times. It does get 'less intense' if not better - it hurts just as much, just perhaphs not quite so constantly... if that makes sense. This is your first Christmas - you are certainly not wallowing x

I hope it comes in time for Christmas - but if it doesn't I'm sure he'll understand.
