Christmas Dinner Food Shop - What do I need?

MrsBradleyCooper · 21/12/2011 12:42

I did try doing a search but I couldn't find anything, so here goes...

I am picking the turkey up on Friday

Have bought:

potatoes
brussels sprouts
carrots
parsnips
chipolatas
bacon
stuffing
cranberry sauce
parma ham (need to get melon and something else - what?)

lager
sherry
bucks fizz
vino

(classy household, us Xmas Grin )

So what else do I need? Would like to include Christmas Eve dinner, nibbles, etc. Boxing Day we are with family so that's not a problem.

Pastry to make a pie with leftovers?
Cream?
Desserts?
Mince pies ?
Cheeseboard?

MrsBradleyCooper · 21/12/2011 13:18

Pastry - no I don't think I'll make anything - probably just chuck it all in sandwiches - ooh that's a point - bread....

Desserts and cream - yes I need them, but unsure what to get as I always feel Christmas pudding is just too much/stodgy?

Mince pies - got em

Cheeseboard - yes must get that and a box of biscuits

Thanks Smile

Anything else?

How about a brûlée cheesecake? Aldi do a frozen one which is nice!
Or good old trifle?

For Christmas eve we have ham and I'm planning on doing potato dauphioise SP? And green beans. I always buy a big pork pie from the butchers and some snacky stuff like cocktail sausages, mini scotch eggs etc.

Crisps and dips are a must in this house

Nice bread

Plenty of bacon and sausages for lazy brunches over Christmas

Brandy butter for mince pies

I'm trying to remember what is on my list, but I don't actually make Christmas dinner.

How are you cooking the potatoes? I like to dust them with semolina and roast in duck fat!

gregssausageroll · 21/12/2011 13:59

gravy

whoatethelastbiscuit · 21/12/2011 14:00

myalias · 21/12/2011 14:06

GrimmaTheNome · 21/12/2011 14:15

We don't bother with xmas pud any more, just mince pies. Fancy the idea of xmas pud ice-cream though...

bag of salad maybe to have with the cold meat later? Chutney to go in sandwiches?

wheredidiputit · 21/12/2011 14:28

I We tend to do picky bits on christmas Eve a mix of chinese starter things.

Pudding don't tend to bother with but have chocolate log with ice cream and cream if anyone wants anything.

Could turn left over roasted veg into a soup.

GypsyMoth · 21/12/2011 14:33

crikeybadger · 21/12/2011 14:43

SantaffetaClaus · 21/12/2011 14:45

Bread sauce?
Red cabbage?
Crackers - for cheese and for pulling?
Festive napkins?
Chutney?
Soft drinks?
Lots of milk for tea/coffee etc
Loo roll Xmas Grin

MrsChristmasDB · 21/12/2011 14:47

Batter mix for yorkshire puds/ or flour/milk/eggs

Sugar

Stuffing

MrsBradleyCooper · 21/12/2011 15:52

Ooh thanks

Ok so far I still need:

Desserts (Am liking the chocolate log idea, especially if it's pre-made Grin)
Cream
Cheese and biscuits
Ham
Salad
Crisps/Dips/Nuts/Nibbles
Bread (though not sure when to buy so that it will keep?)
Fruit
After Eights (must buy at last minute or they will be scoffed by me )
Turkey Foil - must NOT forget this!
Coffee
Got dishwasher tabs yesterday
Crackers - yes you see these are all the things I would forget - well done crikeybadger
Chutney
Soft drinks - yes need lots of sparkling water/squash/fruit juice
Milk
Oh yes loo roll - must get a mega pack of that Xmas Grin

Thanks everyone - very helpful. That's quite a list I have there. DH was appalled that I went to buy the veg yesterday and spent £89..... must stick to what I need this time.

Just called up this thread a few minutes ago to make sure my list was complete Xmas Smile

SnowmanDaveIsVeryFestive · 22/12/2011 15:07

Have you got:
pet food
all the gubbins to make the gravy
lemons for the gin
Salt for dishwasher

GrimmaTheNome · 22/12/2011 16:04

Arghhh! Foil!!! I knew there was something I forgot to put on my list.
Thanks for the reminder.

But I have just picked up the 6kg bag of dogfood I ordered, so we won't have to make the dog sick by feeding him on turkey Grin

MrsBradleyCooper · 22/12/2011 16:27

No pets (or is that for the annoying guests Grin )

Have bought gravy

Yes lemons a good idea

Just filled dishwasher with salt

Still not got everything else though - I'll be the demented looking woman in Waitrose on Saturday
