Do you take your DCs presents out of the packaging before you wrap them?

DH and I can't agree - I say lets take them out of all the packaging before we wrap them, so that as soon as the DC open them they can start playing with the toys.

DH thinks that its easier to wrap when its in the cardboard and shows that its a new toy.

MN Jury - please decide - we will abide by your decision.

I unpack remove all the wires/screws and then put back in the original box so it is easier to wrap. Unless I want it to fit in a stocking in which case it stays out the box.
DS got a second hand electric trainset a couple of years ago, I made up some of it and set it going before he woke up in the morning. Then wrapped the rest in the box I was planning on storing it in. I don't think any of the DSs actually realised it was secondhand.

If it's practical (ie not a load of little bits) I take it out and put batteries etc in before I wrap it. I remember dd was really frustrated when she was about 2 and all the toys I bought her seemed to have about 10 of those twisted wire things attaching them to the cardboard. Getting all of those off with a distressed toddler howling was most fun.

another vote for taking out of box putting batteries in and cutting all the tags. Sometimes Barbie comes out of the box upside down but that just adds to the fun. I have had to take a toy back to ELC last week as it did,nt work, dd would ahve been very upset if that had happened on Christmas day.

I bought dd3 a doll and wanted to test to see if it works so I took it out of the box. No kidding, it took me 30 minutes to untie all the stupid wires. I've put it back in the box and wrapped it but removed most wires.

No, I've never done this. Nor will I. Feels all wrong to me.

OK, so we left everything as was this year - i think next year we might try and untangle some of the wires and make things easier to extract (why should you need a screwdriver to get things otu of cardboard packaging? WHY) but then put it back in packaging for wrapping - thanks for your input everyone.
