Christmas booze that isn't too boozy?

Sorry if I sound like an idiot but I don't normally drink so don't 'know' that many drinks.

I'd like to get in something slightly alcoholic for Christmas - I have been known to have a Bucks Fizz but I'm not a huge fan of champagne. Is there anything else along those lines?

storminabuttercup · 18/12/2011 21:30

MrsKitty · 18/12/2011 21:36

Fizzy wine mixed with any kind of fruit juice.

Tinsel, I see your Snowballs and raise you a Babycham Xmas Grin.

Baileys with milk is divine.

oreocrumbs · 18/12/2011 22:05

Baileys with milk is my christmassy drink Xmas Grin

Tuaca made in a pitcher with loads of fresh limes squeezed in and made up with ginger ale- delicious, and its not well known so you get bonus points if you are entertaining Xmas Wink

Sparklingbaubles · 18/12/2011 22:07

Southern Comfort and Lemonade or Cola. Tastes just like pop. Grin

Jenda · 18/12/2011 22:24

Sparklingbaubles · 18/12/2011 22:25

Ooh Crabbie's Ginger Beer. Fab.

rabbid · 18/12/2011 22:26

second snowballs

meditrina · 18/12/2011 22:29

Some of you must also be me! For I also thought snowballs and Babycham.

Also, for a retro 70s feel, how about martini and lemonade?

meditrina · 18/12/2011 22:30

And ginger wine if it's snowy!

thebigkahuna · 18/12/2011 22:34

If you like Rose wine (I don't) then Tesco does a bottle of Banrock Station Rose which is only 5%. I bought it for MIL but she hasn't opened it yet so have no idea what it's like..

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2011 22:35

Baileys with milk? I just did a tony vomit in my mouth

(sorry)

Prosecco with juice is a winner.. pom juice especially nice.

trulyscrumptious43 · 18/12/2011 22:38

Prosseco and clementine juice???
OOOOH!

We always have hot chocolate with Bailey's in it just before the village carol singing. Makes it bearable!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2011 22:39

TINY vomit. A Tony vomit is something else entirely.

oreocrumbs · 18/12/2011 22:40

Jareth Try it - you might like it! Xmas Grin.

Loads of ice, (lots of) baileys, ice cold milk. Honestly nothing nicer! Think alcoholic milkshake!

Ironically this drink was introduced to me in deepest darkest outback Australia in the scorching heat Xmas Hmm. But I've never looked back!

thebigkahuna · 18/12/2011 22:40

Whoever mentioned clementine juice is a ponce.

That is all Grin

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2011 22:42

clemantine juice, surely orange juice? Am I a commoner? Wink

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/12/2011 22:44

jacques fruit cider - the pink one.

though im failing to understand why drink at all if you want alcohol that doesnt taste like alcohol you heathens!

I have a bottle of Moet...tis all i need.... Xmas Grin

zipzap · 18/12/2011 23:03

Rock shandy is good - ice in the bottom of a glass, few drops of Angostura bitters and then top up with lemonade.

All goes pink, has a nice taste to the lemonade that is grown up / mildly and pleasantly alcoholic but actually has minimal alcohol in it. Can tweak to your own likes - more or less ice; more or less bitters or scale up into a jug. Add a twist of lemon or orange if you fancy but it doesn't need it. And if you end up with some bitters left it's very nice on salmon when cooking.

The other thing that is nice is pimms or even winter pimms. Make ordinary pimms with half lemonade and half ginger beer, makes it very nice.

trulyscrumptious43 · 18/12/2011 23:08

Clementine juice (M&S do one) is amazers. So there.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2011 23:10

Ok. I will buy some clemantine juice :)

MrsKitty · 18/12/2011 23:53

Baileys with milk is made even better with a shot of Kahlua added to the mix. And a shot of Vodka, if you're feeling particularly dangerous Xmas Grin.

I discovered Gingerbread Cream (i.e. gingerbread flavoured baileys style drink) in M&S last week so that will be my Christmas eve treat, in a glass as well as poured over ice-cream for breakfast ... late night snack ... pudding

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 19/12/2011 07:45

I treated myself to some baileys this year, and now it looks like I will have to buy some Kahlua and vodka as well... Xmas Grin

I've wrapped my presents and written my cards. Does that mean I can start drinking now?

MrsMuddyPuddles · 19/12/2011 07:56

What is babycham? I usually go for hot chocolate with a shot of baileys or pepermint schnapps.

zipzap · 19/12/2011 08:08

I've had some very nice Sheridans Berries flavour recently. Doesn't taste very alcoholic but unfortunately I think it is. However if you fancy a fruity variant instead of Baileys in cocktails it would work very well. There's another flavour of Sheridans that is essentially the same as baileys too but separated into black and White components that is quite fun to pour.
