Do I have to get DD what she wants?!

we've got DD a kids camera for Christmas. She really likes taking photos with my phone & our camera & I think she will enjoy it & get mileage out of it. However a couple of times recently (including today) she's talked about wanting a tiny dog that moves & barks. She already has a big toy dog that moves & barks that he hardly pays any attention to. I think she's asking for the sake of asking iyswim.

Okay typing this I've decided that I'm not going to rush out for a dog - if necessary will tell her Santa go the message too late. Will big up cameras too this week. Aibu? She's 3.6 by the way

You might get the "oh I am a crap mother" moment if she asks on Christmas Day, but if you're ready with a reason why Santa didn't manage one, she'll probably have forgotten by Boxing Day. On the rare occasion one of mine has carried on wanting something we didn't get for Christmas, I've got them one for their birthday.

Or if it's a cash issue, rather than 'something you don't want cluttering up the house' why not get Granny/ Aunt etc to get it for her, instead of spending a similar amount of money on something she might not want ?
