Getting a turkey on christmas eve....

We have PILs coming to us for christmas this year, and they are buying the food. MIL thinks it will be fine to go into a supermarket on christmas eve and buy a fresh turkey. Surely not? It's kind of them to buy it, and I don't want to take over, but so worried we won't be able to get one.

i've always declined all offers of buying the turkey or any other form of meat by IL's. shops either seem to have loads on christmas eve or none at all. maybe i'm a control freak, but i've also been worried about it being left out whilst they pack/sort their house out and then sitting in the warm car. last thing i want at christmas is food poisoning.

nothing wrong with taking over if christmas is at your house ....its also called being organised and a good host!!

I'd be worried about there being none left, or at least none the size you want. Could you suggest you pick one up a day or two earlier, and still let them shop for the rest of the food on Christmas Eve? Anything else you can work round, but if you can't get a turkey then you'll need to rethink a lot of the rest of it!
