As above got given to Dotty Ps gift cards for my birthday - removed from the card determined to buy something couldnt find anything in the shop , wallis, Evans or top shop that id like so though id save some cash and buy two Topshop/Topman gift vouchers to give to family members

Can you do this?? Has anyone done this ? Will they laugh me out of the shop?

no you cant do it. We tried after getting WHSmith vouchers for kids, they would have preferred amazon. Tried to buy new cards and we weren't allowed :( .

Im sure you cant, but cant you just pass on the original cards, if you can use them in Top Shop anyway?

omydarlin · 10/12/2011 15:43

Not really rhondajean as I stupidly detached them from the gift card bits - and also there is a danger that the other family members who gave me them as pressies may catch on DRAT!!!

I will have to buy myself something then wont I lol!

That might just work! Why would they refuse when you returned it?

I havent bought any DP giftcards - is the other bit essential? In Sainsburys you can buy gift card bags - I always get them, take the surrounding stuff off the gift card and pop just the credit card sized bit into it?

I got a £20 voucher gift card from collecting the daily mail rewards cards and I redeemed them for a high street £20 voucher that can be used in over 15 shops.

then went to Boots to get a giftcard but they could not swipe the card to get the gift card. Said I had to pay by other means. They did say they had problems with these cards but I think they just don't know how they work. I then went to HMV to get a £20 gift card and used the daily mail card. The guy read the instructions on it which used like cash and he just put it in the till without swiping it. So I got my giftcard.

I don't see why you can't use your cards to purchase other cards. You are still purchasing something.

Well I went into Dorothy Perkins and just asked at the counter (as an enquiry it's nearest to my work)and the girl was like "no you have to purchase merchandise and its not classed as merchandise" made me feel really rubbish BUT since I am suspect about that shop anyway I checked in Topshop/Topman who were happy to do it even though admitted to me didn't know how to put it through the till gave it a go and voila - two seperate giftcards wrapped in cute little envelopes and 20 squid saved. Nice laidback staff in that shop.

I am thinking of boycotting the DP shop getting fed up with their shutters being most unwelcomingly halfway down the shop entrance at 5.10. The other day i was in there and just going through all the racks trying to find stuff in the right sizes (no coherence) and a member of staff came over and went "ooh look mindy/otherstaff member looks like the ferrets are out again I suppose I'll tidy this up". Then after trying 5 different dresses on none of them any good you can only guess the amount of eye rolling that went on when I came out of the changing room and didnt want to buy any of their crap!!

Anyway rant over! it works on Arcadia gift cards depending on who you ask!!

i kind of did it with clarks when i wanted to reuse a voucher from months earlier- staff lovely. All i really wanted was to update the current gift card to one with a dec date (to hide the fact it was given to me months earlier!). I bought a bag with the giftcard which they then refunded on a fresh card. The staff were lovely!
