Never had a sat nav. Do I want one for Christmas?

I am a very nervous driver and lots of people say that a sat nav would really help.

What do I need to look for in a sat nav and which make is the nest out of Tom Tom and Garmin. Are there any that you recommend?

Thanks

we've had a tomtom and the copilot one DH had on his phone.

The Tomtom is great but I would say you really need to use it for every journey for a while to get used to it. Ours came from IL's who "couldnt get on with it" but only used it for trips so when i came to using it they got confused by it.

Do you know anyone with either one, so you could have a go and see for yourself??

Yes!!

I'm a nervous driver and I love mine. I have a widescreen Garmin and love it, personally don't like Tom Toms but someone will be on in a minute to say they love theirs so its swings and roundabouts.

Mine has 'junction view' which shows you a picture of the upcoming junction and shows you which lane to be in and I find it really helps. My last one didn't have it, just had arrows in the corner to show which lane but at a complicated junction sometimes I was still confused but the full screen junction view on my new one is really excellent.

I have the Garmin Nuvi 1410 but I've had mine about a year and I think the newer version of it is the Garmin Nuvi 1440. I really recommend it.

We got the cheapest TomTom possible 3 years ago & it is fab, SO glad we bought it. It's obvs brilliant when you have no-one else to navigate, or when they are occupied with the DC, but has also helped us take a new route to avoid traffic jams.

It doesn't tell you which lane to go in at junctions, but it has a little picture at the bottom of the screen that tells you what you will need to do at the next junction, even if it's miles & miles away.

Most phones have sat nav on them now though, mines does, so its a bit of a non-present really?

She talks me through the whole journey...
