... so what else would you recommend for a Christmas Eve story for DS who's 3.6? We already have a lovely copy of the Night Before Christmas and The Christmas Bear. We like to do new Christmas Eve PJ's, dvd and book and I now just have the book to buy.

TIA.

Nezzi · 09/12/2011 13:45

No sorry, not the Christmas version, just the original one. Oops...

Ah, hopes raised, then quickly dashed... Xmas Sad Xmas Grin

I have given up all hope of finding a new and reasonably priced copy this year. Any suggestions out there?

I just bought DD the twelve days of chrismas from the works for 99p. Thats not bad, and we have just been given a huge box of books from DD's godmother and there are some nice christmas ones in there, there is an Usborne lift the flap/touchy feely christmas book there that looks really good but I just had a quick look for a link and can't find it. Will look further Xmas Smile

oreocrumbs · 09/12/2011 15:55

Usborne Farmyard Tales Christmas

Has lots of flaps to open, and little details like cards on the dresser you open and read.

I'm going to read this to DD for christmas Xmas Grin

yy, the Apple Tree Farm Christmas book is actually rather magical and lovely, despite whatever you may feel about Mrs-Boot-The-Farmer, Poppy, Sam and the bloody dog. Grin Cheap for a quality HB book and available all over the place!

Hard to find (my mum just came up trumps and found our childhood copy!) but Shirley Hughes' Lucy and Tom's Christmas is lovely for preschooler age. And of course, Mog's Christmas, which is completely brilliant. ("The tree continued shouting at Mog. Then it stopped shouting and went into the house.")

Thank you Presents! I've never seen that book club site and WHSmiths hadn't crossed my mind. As soon as I get home I'm going to see if I can get one in time for Christmas. Thanks again!

I ordered my copy of the Jolly Christmas postman from book people about a month ago and no sign Sad, also had my original copy ordered from amazon and cancelled due to the publisher not being able to fullfill or something like that. There have been a few posts on here about problems with this years edition.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 09/12/2011 18:47

Jolly Christmas Postman purchased in Waitrose 2weeks ago, 12.99 :)

WhatWouldLeoDo · 09/12/2011 20:34

Hmmm. It's not going to be so easy after all Xmas Sad. I went into Waterstones tonight and they checked their system - apparently the publisher is out of stock and although Waterstones is 'awaiting stock' they won't actually get any more. WH Smith don't actually have it in stock - their 1-2 delivery estimate means that they are awaiting stock I think so they probably have the same issue as Waterstones. I signed up for the book club PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas linked to, but once I'd actually signed up and went to buy it, it was in fact sold out.

If only I did my Waitrose shopping inshore instead of online DedalusDigglesPocketWatch Xmas Envy.

Someone was selling this at a local primary school jumble sale, I think it was unsold at the end of the night.
I could email the school and ask them to put the word out? See if the person still has it?

Alternatively do you have a local facebook selling page that you could ask if anyone has one to sell?

zipzap · 10/12/2011 08:44

Have a look at www.thebookpeople.co.uk - they had loads of nice Xmas books. Don't do a search for Xmas or you'll end up with the additional stuff they sell at not very good prices. Instead either work your way through the Christmas and kids sections and they had plenty at good prices too.

Things like a pop up Santa and the 12 days of Xmas plus some good Xmas colouring books

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 10/12/2011 09:42

i have pmed you Xmas Wink

WhatWouldLeoDo · 11/12/2011 15:31

Thanks Presents - I have now ordered a brand new copy of the Jolly Christmas Postman via ebay. The link is here for anyone else who might be looking. The listing is in $ but free shipping to UK (though seller seems to be in UK anyway?). The seller does say that she can't guarantee delivery before Christmas but there's quite good recent feedback on delivery times so I'm hopeful!

I have also bought one snowy night as an alternative.

Thanks again for the replies and suggestions.

Oh and Terra thanks for the offer to get in touch with the school, that was very kind of you.

i have just heard back from the seller WhatWouldLeoDo has linked to and she has said, yes as you are in the uk, it should get to you in time, but be quick because the stock she has is selling fast.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 11/12/2011 21:48

Thanks Presents!
