I made this one but it doesnt taste quite right yet..nearly but still a bit odd, is that because I hasnt done the half an hour in the oven actually in the mince pies or should I leave it for a week or so?

I'd make some mince pies and see how they taste, but it is not going to be like ordinary mincemeat with all those cranberries in.

true 300g seemed like A LOT, well we'll try a batch and see how we go! Got any good standard recipes for take two?

She's coming on for a webchat next week - I've just posted on the thread.

"She" being Nigella, of course.

I've never made my own mincemeat...but I might for next year! I've already made six dozen mincepies, not counting the pinwheels another three dozen made in november.

I do usually tart up the ordinary mincemeat though with more cherries/apricots and a sloosh of port. Marzipan is good too, either grated in or just a dob on top of the mincemeat.

Its actually really easy catsmamma - just a fair few ingredients, marzipan on top is a good idea, I liked 's idea of putting a whole through the top after cooking and putting a dab of rum butter or boozy cream in..yum!

I made Delia's mincemeat this year. I made half quantities, but I still ended up with five jars of the vile stuff. It was really easy and it made the kitchen smell lovely (although I do think it's the devil's own food). Now it's over to DH to make it into pies!
