I have absolutly no iddea at all, it was his birthday last week and I got him everything that he wanted for that (clothes), he has no hobbies and no particular interests. I was going to buy him a soda stream but when he saw the ad last night he said he cant believe people would buy them. I am going to have to go to the shopping centre and wander round aimlessly, but I could do without that unless I can come up with some vague idea. argh

My DH is getting swiss army knife and Steve Jobs autobiography so far. Stuck for other ideas too.

MegBusset · 07/12/2011 10:48

Booze and food are the backbone of my DH's presents every year :)

bessie26 · 07/12/2011 12:14

The best present I ever got DH was a tiny Leatherman (Swiss army knife) that goes on his key ring. He loves it & uses it all the time!

I'm stuck for ideas too (we also have a £30 limit) so hope you get some more suggestions I can steal!

Music?

ditavonteesed · 07/12/2011 12:31

wouldnt know what to do with a swiss army knife (although i would quite like one) wouldnt know where to atart with music, he just bought loads as db got him a hmv voucher for birthday. I bought him all the usual socks and pants and stuff for his birthday.
So far am at a bottle of jim beam, some thremal socks and a lush bath bomb. we have chickens and dogs and cats, I would quite happily get anything for any of those, but they are all mine really so he wouldnt appreciate that much.

I just bought this today for my dh www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-Jelly-Swiss-Card-Lite/dp/B0002IK7XU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1323262552&sr=8-2

I quite fancy one myself.

one of the best presents DH got apparently was a head torch Xmas Hmm, trying to think what else has been successful... digital radio but £££££, camping stuff, a power ball

mychildrenarebarmy · 07/12/2011 13:03

It depends where you are but this might be worth a look if you are in or canget into London (and arrange a babysitter). www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-days-out#Getintolondon

The best present I ever got dh was one of those photo books. I rummaged through all his old photos, got some great ones of him as a baby and then a child - some of his granddad and him driving his first tractor, then him in his punk rock days playing with his band, travelling to Australia etc.

The photo book itself cost around £12 and I was able to do it all online, scanning the photos, arranging them, putting a few photos on as the background pages etc. He was really really touched when he got it as he knew how much effort had gone into it and it brought back some lovely memories for him. He showed all his family and a few of them did some of their own for their families.

It really was the BEST present ever - and the cheapest!
I used Jessops and today only they've an offer of 30% off large photo books.

Does he cook? I bought DP a really good japanese steel chefs knife for xmas. When asked he always says he wants nothing (helpful!), but it is the only thing he has vaguely shown an interest in all year. On the rare occasion he mentions anything I write it on my list - which I keep on my laptop and I add to it throughout the year should he display a passing affection for an item. I refer back to it in Nov/Dec when I begin shopping.

bessie26 · 08/12/2011 08:31

How much do you want to spend? Track days always go down well with my DH, but will cost £100+ for a decent session

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 08/12/2011 09:11

DH is getting ipad accessories to go with the ipad I bought him for his birthday last month (forward planning!) and some snow boots and thermal vests for winter dog walking

Kindle/books, wallet, leather gloves, molton & brown smellies, hotel chocolat stuff also go down well with him.....

Theatre/concert tickets are usually a good option for people.

kateecass · 08/12/2011 14:38

Taffy What ipad accessories? Could be an idea for my DH!

Dita That weather station looks fab. We have similar and all the family love it. Really useful for knowing how many layers to dress the kids in before setting out of the warm house.

Sloobreeus · 08/12/2011 14:43

Year's subscription to National Geographic? Great pic of you and the DC in a funky/classic frame?

civilfawlty · 08/12/2011 14:45

Second the head torch suggestion. My dh loves his. No idea why...

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 08/12/2011 15:21

kateecass - A case with a stand built in - possibly the revolving/rotating one, an in care charger, and a thing for putting SD card in for downloading photos so far.

He also has a solar charger for holidays and a case that goes over the head-rest of the car to turn it into a DVD player

I am also toying with getting him an alphabet art picture of our surname.... although thats more of a house present that I really want!

kateecass · 08/12/2011 17:21

Taffy... Liking the stand idea. I've got a pain in my thumb from too much iPad use!!

Sorry, more questions!! Is your solar any good? We have one that is rubbish. this one Would be nice to have one which actually works when camping.

Also love your surname picture idea for all the family. Have also seen a picture which has significant dates on it ...your wedding, birthdays etc. Might even try and do that one myself!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/12/2011 19:14

Where does one buy a head torch then? Dp would either love it or be utterly bemused by it and I can't work out which!

bessie26 · 08/12/2011 23:32

DH loves his power ball

Am loving the weather station idea, might have to steal that (DH walks to work)

Another brilliant present I got him was a portable charger for his phone. It was about the size of an iPhone & you could just plug your phone into it & get about 2 full charges out of it. Very useful for when he has to take a long train journey somewhere for work.

Is this the name photo thing you mentioned? I'd never seen one until tonight when I stumbled across the website (I have never used them, but their made to measure frames seem very cheap...)
