What festive display to put on my sideboard

We have a sideboard in our sitting room which has nothing on it

What to put on it for Christmas (we are trying to keep this as the 'grown up' room)?

I'm not that good at flower arrangements and not keen on wreaths with a candle in the middle.

Ideas please.

Do you think some pine cones around the bottom would be overkill?

I've got a nice clear vase filled with Christmas baubles and fairy lights (battery operated) in the table in my hall which is quite nice.

winterfox · 06/12/2011 13:07

and fairy lights Grin

girlywhirly · 06/12/2011 13:10

A glass bowl full of baubles, or a swag (shorter than a garland) decorated with fairy lights and Christmassy ornamentation. Box of posh chocolates, decanter of port.

fluffytowels · 06/12/2011 13:17

Where would one purchase battery operated fairy lights?

bridgeandbow · 06/12/2011 13:37

not that grown up, but look nice with some candles burning we have a whole choir on our sideboard!

Camerondiazepam · 06/12/2011 13:40

You can get them at the often-overlooked Christmas powerhouse that is BHS.

In other news:

"Dear Father Christmas
Please may I have a purple glitter Jesus money-box. I have been very good and hardly been U at all.
Best
CD"

John Lewis, Wilkinsons, garden centres, Christmas barn type places

TardlyWhiptrack · 06/12/2011 13:43

A model of Santa killing an elk?

fluffytowels · 06/12/2011 17:33

Not sure I can manage an Elk. Surely any moose like creature would do.

I have 3 square glass vases that I could fill with balls. That could work. That and the glittery Jesus and I'm done!

Bridgeandbow, that would be a great way to use all those bloody innocent smoothie bobble hats!

I got some lights at B&Q, but John Lewis definitely have them too.
