Dvds for the dcs stockings - what would you go for this year?

I like to put a dvd in the dcs stockings (this year they will be 7 and 10) and normally have them by now but I have very little idea what to get this year.

I suspect they would like Horrid Henry but could do with a suggestion for another dvd that they could enjoy.

Ds doesn't like anything scary or where "peril" is involved if at all prolonged.

If they like Lego Star Wars then Tesco have the new Padawan Menace DVD for a fiver.

Daftapath · 06/12/2011 20:43

Johnny English

Despicable Me

Nativity

Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Daftapath · 06/12/2011 20:45

I was going to get The Padawan Menace but realised that it is only 20mins long, so have gone for a full length film for peace for longer

SnowPlaceLikeHome · 06/12/2011 20:45

I've got The Smurfs film and Tangled for my pre-schooler DD

Horrid Henry the Movie and The Grinch for 6 yr old DS

OkeeDoeKee · 06/12/2011 20:56

Gnomeo and Juliet????

Ja9 · 06/12/2011 20:59

Another vote for Rio

Also, do they have The Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies?

A hit with 7yo ds and his friends is 'The Spe Next Door'

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 06/12/2011 21:10

Is Johnny English out yet? That and Dolphin Tale have been my dcs favourite films at the cinema this year.

Dd would love Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 but Ds is terrified of the amputated foot so it has to be avoided if I ever want to sleep again.

Is Nativity any good? Has anyone seen it? We have a long car journey on Friday and Sunday and wanted some Christmassy dvds to keep them quiet and get them in the mood for an early Christmas weekend with family.

We loved Nativity. I put it onto the iPad for last Christmas morning. Dd (in particular) watched it over and over! My two are 6 and 10, btw.

Johnny English, the first film, is on DVD. I got it in HMV for £3, I think it was.

The two Alvin and the Chipmunks films are also quite good for DVD.

Daftapath · 06/12/2011 21:17

Home Alone films also go down well!

PontyMython · 07/12/2011 07:04

Alli, are you sure the Puss In Boots you have is the one from Shrek? According to Amazon it isn't out yet but there is a Puss N Boots on Amazon for about 3 pounds that people have bought thinking it was from Shrek.

DD1 wants the Phineas & Ferb movie. I am kicking myself because it was available over here but it has now sold out.

PontyMython · 09/12/2011 06:33

I think on an advert on a happy meal box "only in cinemas" was underneath the Puss In Boots film.

The3Bears · 09/12/2011 10:37

Cars 2

smurfs (i loved this at cinemas)

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 09/12/2011 11:44

Tom and Jerry (classic version - not the modern talking ones)

Scooby Doo - episodes dvd

My DS1 loves wallace and gromit! Got the box set last xmas for about £10, and the curse of the were rabbit is good too.

Miracle on 34th Street

Muppet xmas Carol

Disneys Bolt is great too!

orangina · 09/12/2011 11:55

Go to Amazon and check out the prices (that influences my decision as much as anything else!)

Would look out for:

Muppets,
Wallace and Gromit,
Alvin + chipmunks,
Bolt,
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,
Sound of Music

This year dd (6) is getting Tangled in her stocking, and ds (4) is getting Curious George. Both about a fiver on amazon.....

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 09/12/2011 11:57

My film-addicted 4yo is getting Horton, Cats & Dogs 2, Cars 2 and Polar Express for this Christmas. If he wasn't already getting all of those, I'd probably pick up Mr Popper's Penguins for him as well, cos he loved that at the cinema - but 4 is probably enough.

Gnomeo and Juliet is fab, DS loves it. :) And many of the others mentioned - he got Hop for his birthday on Sunday, and already had Rio (DH tends to buy the ones we like randomly through the year).

winnybella · 09/12/2011 12:00

DS is getting Star Wars Phantom Menace and Eragon (but this one is a bit crap apparently, found out after buying it).

old School Sesame Street Volumes 1 and 2

AlfalfaMum · 09/12/2011 12:50

I got DD1 the complete set of Harry Potter dvds (including part 2 of Deathly Hallows!) from Amazon for £20. Really pleased with that!

I'm now on the look out for the Lion King for the little ones, hoping for another bargain but only seen it full price so far..
