Does anyone buy a turkey on christmas eve?

My children have asked to have turkey for our christmas dinner this year. I am shocked at the prices and wonder if it's worth seeing if they are reduced on christmas eve. I have a Large SAinburys, M&S and Waitruse within walking distance of my home.

Has anyone got any negative or positive stories about doing this?

Yes we've done it for the last two years. We go to our local Sainsburys an hour before they are due to close on Christmas Eve and literally everything perishable is massively marked down. Last year we got an organic free range Bronze turkey crown marked down from about £40 to £7! Obviously you do run the risk of not getting anything but we're not that bothered frankly. We reckon its worth that risk.

one year my dad was in charge of the turkey and never got around to ordering... cue him, me and my sister charging around the local sainsburys in order to buy the ONLY remaining one, which was

a ) frozen
b) too big to have a chance of defrosting in time / fit in the oven

mum was not impressed!
