Any recommendations? This is for my eldest niece- I am getting her little sisters box sets from The Book People, so I'd like to get something similar for her too.

I'm thinking Jacqueline Wilson? Or a classic like Ballet Shoes?

Anything else? (If it is available in a cut price box set from the Book People website so much the better Grin)

I loved the 'When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit' trilogy when I was about that age.

My name is Mina

I was reckoning that By 11yo, DD (still just 10) will have read most of the JWilson books.
However, DD says that she will just "Read 'em again!" (and again and again) at age 11.
Says she's read Kiss about five times, for instance (sigh).

Some girls really HATE the JW books, though, check first.

Silly question but has she read the Harry Potters yet or are they no longer in favour?

insanityscratching · 04/12/2011 11:04

What about these?

Dd's friends loved these books although dd never saw the appeal.

Percy Jackson, boy hero, but lots of sting girl characters. DD1 loved them. Great fun I've read them too.
DD2, 10 likes Willson and Cathy Cassidy too much real world unpleasantness for my taste. I've only finished suite case girl. Which should be a must for all separating parents.

Strong girls

Ooh some good suggestions thanks! She is just 11 so in last year of junior school. She is bright but also a bit young for her age iyswim, so don't really want something that's all boys and snogging!

The Book People have a Michael Morpurgo book set that looks great.

I have got dd (about to turn 11):

Skellig by David Almond
Gangsta Granny by David Walliams
The Ruby Redfort Mystery by Lauren Child
The latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid novel.

She also loves Wolf Notes by Lori Dunn (or something like that) and the rest in that series.

She has loved all the other David Walliams, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid novels too.

She is bright too but not very "mature" yet either and this is the sort of stuff she loves.

Little House series, or Malory Towers/St. Claire's sets
