DH has got it into his head that we should play more parlour games rather than watch tv Hmm.

I want to make him put his money where his mouth is and buy him some board games.

So far I've got Scrabble and Connect 4.

Any others I should get?

Backgammon? If there are likely to be more than the two of you, try 'Killer Bunnies'.

GrimmaTheNome · 03/12/2011 21:28

Is this just for you and your DH or do you have DC - if so how old?

(or maybe you should just buy him a book of cryptic crosswords or killer sudoku or suchlike so he can exercise his brain while you carry on vegging Grin)

GrimmaTheNome · 03/12/2011 21:29

I quite like Mancala.
'Mastermind' - the thing with the pegs

Pancakeflipper · 03/12/2011 21:29

Mexican Train especially if there's more than you and DH. Blokus is ok. Uno is fun and can get competitive. And we love ludo.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 03/12/2011 21:29

I second backgammon and would also recommend Yahtzee and a good old pack of cards

If you're talking about for more people at Christmas then Cranium is good fun

melliebobs · 03/12/2011 21:31

I'd there's a group Pass the Bomb is good and kids can get involved too

ronx · 03/12/2011 21:36

It will be for the two of us. Our oldest DC is only 3.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 03/12/2011 21:39

TheTinselsTheWrongColour · 04/12/2011 19:05

ooooh just re read then if just you two get the yes/no game, absolutely hysterical, especially if you have a had glass or two of wine

bigbadbarry · 04/12/2011 19:07

Carcassonne is the best :)

bigbadbarry · 04/12/2011 19:08

Bugger, I was so careful to get the board game not the French town. Sigh.
Carcassonne

TheTinselsTheWrongColour · 04/12/2011 19:09

bigbad that was the town in labarinth wasn't it ???

MamaPizza · 04/12/2011 19:27

The Labyrinth game

It's very popular in Germany, not really here. But read the reviews and you'll know it's going to be a hit.

CocktailQueen · 04/12/2011 19:27

Pass the Bomb, Pictionary, Monopoly, cards - we love a game of cards! Charades, tiddlywinks, marbles! (yes, for grown ups!)

Angelsus · 04/12/2011 19:33

Cluedo's good fun

Jcee · 04/12/2011 19:40

I second cards, DP and I can get quite competitive especially when -we gamble for pennies-- or monopoly or risk if you like that sort of thing.

We went through a phase of quorridor and it got quite heated with lots of 'lets just have one more as i'll win this time' rematches

If there's more of you then articulate or rapidough is good fun for a group

OriginalPoster · 04/12/2011 20:03

We love 'game of life' electronic pod edition, it's good for all ages dd age6 manages with help from the older children.

Have just ordered 'labyrinth' for dh on your recommendation Thanks

Pancakeflipper · 04/12/2011 22:05

I have just ordered Labyrinth on the strength of this thread. I have considered it several times over the years but decided to get it for DP as a Christmas pressie.

BroomBuBuBum · 04/12/2011 22:09

Taboo is really good, only played with a group of adults but we had a brilliant night Grin

Beamur · 04/12/2011 22:10

Yes to both Carcassone and Labyrinth. You can get lots of add ons for Carcassone which varies the game a lot.
Is Othello still going?
Pictionary a good group game.
UNO is compulsive!
PIL have something called 'Liar Dice' which is a subtle game of bluff.
If you like Scrabble you might also like Bananagrams - I am the undisputed champion in our house!!
Memoir 44, Risk - if you like war/strategy games.

MamaPizza · 05/12/2011 06:40

You will really love it, it's a fab game. Xmas Grin

There is another one that is very popular in Germany, it's the Ramses II game from Ravensburger, but you can't get it on amazon. I got mine on ebay. DH and me had many hours of gaming fun.
