Can you do anything to prepared DC for ice skating?

Any hints or tips?

Thinking of booking DH and the DSs, 10 and 12 to go in Winchester (£21!!). Boys haven't been skating apart from one attempt years ago. They are not particularly sporty but both have good balance (skateboarding etc).

I won't be joining them as 2 years ago I had a bit of a fall on the ice (works do!) when luckily I didn't hurt myself too much but the warning was heeded: don't 'take up' things at 45 without a lot of prior preparation!

I booked my dc onto an ice skating class as neither me nor dh would feel confident enough to take them by ourselves. The upside is that they absolutely love it. The downside is that they need a couple of more sessions and its not cheap!
Although it's only £20 for a half hr private session for both boys, the cost of entry to the rink and skate hire is shockingly expensive.
