What can I do to get into Christmas spirit?

I normally love Christmas and by now should have everything sorted and be moaning to DH about putting decorations up.
But this year I just don't feel it.
Its first Christmas with a DC -DD is 9 mo. So it should be exciting.
What gets you in the spirit?

It's because it's to bloody sunny!

Thats odd, I wasnt feeling it either when it was my DS first xmas, he was only 2 months old then. It becomes much more fun the more aware they are.
I think you might just be feeling a bit tired which is allowed!
Have a think about what christmas food and drinks you like and make some plans for those to be consumed!
I have my turkish delight ready and waiting in the cupboard!
I also have plans to watch my two fav xmas movies/tv show, The Holiday and The Box of Delights.

The probelm with the Xmas Spirit thing is that it is impossible to keep it up for nearly a month as we appear to being urged to do.

Why would Xmas with a nine month old be exciting - much better when they are bout three or four!!

Yours, ever

Put christmas cd on.
Watch christmas film while putting up tree and decs.
Light christmassy smelling candles or make your own orange & clove thingumies (they smell so nice and christmassy).
Put reindeer ears on.
Eat a mince pie.
Pour mulled wine down throat (or port or similar)
Slip happily into festive coma....Xmas Grin

You have hit the nail on the head amothersplaceisinthewrong. I simply cannot understand why so many people want to start Christmas in November. So far we have two advent calendars on the go and that is it. The tree will go up after DD breaks up from school on 16th December and not before.

DeeOfTheNorth · 03/12/2011 16:31

It's December now! Not November....

There's nothing you need to 'understand' about why people put decorations, etc up now. We do it cos it makes us happy and we like it! I really don't care when anyone else does it....

Each to their own! Xmas Grin

Maybe it will come along a bit later, there is still nearly a month to go. I don't feel Christmassy at all yet, as Methe said the weather is partly to blame, as we are still not wearing coats half the time. I have been shaking my head all day as the FB status updates about putting trees up keep rolling in as I am another one who cannot keep Christmas spirit going for too long but as Dee says, each to their own.

I also think the first Christmas with a DC is a bit of an anti-climax, you think you will feel different and more excited, but they don't notice anything at all till they are about 3.

A sniff of real christmas tree.
Frank Sinatra... followed by a bit of Slade.
Eat a mince pie.

If this doesn't work you have officially lost the Christmas Spirit and are doomed to get coal in your stocking from santa this year.

Go to church or to a carol concert: does it for me every time.
