Aside from the tree, how do you decorate your home at Christmas?

I always feel that our home is somewhat lacking in the festive decoration department. We have a tree, but I wondered what else people did to decorate their homes? We don't have a fireplace or a big hallway with a nice bannister (our stair handrail is fixed to the wall so can't wrap anything around it), there's not much in the way of ledges/shelves to sit anything on...

I did have some really nice stickers for the hallway mirror last year (sounds naff, but they were really nice I promise) but we'd bought them on holiday and they weren't re-usable.

Any ideas to up the festive factor?

Some great ideas on here so thank you very much. I've already been a bought a few wee berry decorations to tuck in behind some pictures and got some battery operated fairly lights (£4 per pack, on 3 for 2) from B&Q to drape around the place.

I have hung baubles on long ribbons and wrapped tinsel around the cross trainer today, as there's nowhere to hide it so it might as well be festive. Plus, there's sod all chance of me getting on it between now and January as 'tis the season to be jolly Xmas Grin. It looks dazzling.

am marking my place to come back later.

I am planning to make some tasteful paper chains this year, and maybe the odd garland or 2.

We have a large sideboard with absolutely nothing on it that needs severely christmassing up Grin

What do you all do with your dried oranges-do you hang them on the tree or put them in a bowl? I bet they smell gorgeous!

Stupid question-but is there a right/wrong way to slice them?

Xmas tree up
Tinsel around the mantle,
tinsel around the entertainment unit
fairy lights draped over display cabinet
fairy lights around the living room
tinsel & fairy lights wrapped around bannister
lights around the conservatory
DD xmas pictures dotted around the house.
ummm Think thats it!

Appuskidu - hold the orange with the ends horizontal (so not facing top and bottom) and just slice about a quarter of an inch thick. Sounds like it should be so complicated but it isn't really! Xmas Smile
My dried oranges I hung on the tree with little bundles of cinnamon sticks - the way the slices catch the light is just gorgeous. I also wanted to put them in a bowl with some conkers and cinnamon sticks too but can't because I have three cats who eat everything, no reason you couldn't try it though!

liveinazoo - Let me know how they turned out!
