DS (7) is only asking for two things - a bronze oak leaf & a green hooded cloak. But I can't find a green cloak anywhere (oak leaf covered than goodness) - can anyone help or will I be roced to try and make one??

Found a brown one, well, its a whole costume but seems to fit with his theme.

Ooh, that is a cute outfit - and yes, I agree it does sort of fit the theme, but he's very clear it needs to be green (it's from a book he's been obsessing over reading). Dd wants the same but with a red cloak, which is much easier to find. I assumed there would be loads of Robin Hood type stuff, but apparently not....

or this one

Its green and they post internationally

Any good?

funnypeculiar · 02/12/2011 10:03

And I can find lots of so called 'simple' how to make a hooded cloak instructions but all of them loose me on step two... (despite having different step twos)

Ahhh, goldbrown - PERFECT! Will email them & see if they can post in time for Christmas...

This looks good. It's available in green(and lots of other colours too). I think it's for children?

G0ldenbrown · 02/12/2011 10:09

Fingers crossed for you

funnypeculiar · 02/12/2011 10:11

Sorry, x-post, RightUpMyRue, there certainly does appear to be a dragon Grin - that's probably less right (he wants to be a rangers apprentice & they are very into being hidden - that doesn't look like a hiding sort of cloak - more a Look At Me type of cloak). But good to have a reserve if shipping from US doesn't work out. Smile

What about this?

funnypeculiar · 02/12/2011 10:17

What do you lot do to find all of these?! I spent ages & got precisely nowhere. RightUpMyRue - your second one looks good too - will drop them an email (was a bit Hmm about the £27 postage, and then realised postage from US is going to be slightly more!

insanityscratching · 02/12/2011 10:18

or this?

funnypeculiar · 02/12/2011 10:31

Grin I saw that one, insanityscratching ... it's amazing isn't it but possibly not quite small boy up a tree!

Oh, Oh! You need the MNer who got married, had her little sister as ring bearer who interpreted that as a Hobbit ringbearer! Her cloak was lovely Smile he photos are fab! Grin

Can't remember MNer's name... blast.

fluffytowels · 02/12/2011 10:41

Montmartre, I remember her. That thread made me cry a little bit. Her sister was so proud Grin

Tmesis · 02/12/2011 10:52

It was DoubleNegativePanda, I think.

montmartre · 02/12/2011 11:00

Ah- thanks! It was lovely wasn't it fluffy? Grin

funnypeculiar · 02/12/2011 11:34

Oh, yy, I remember that thread - lovely! Her little sister was adorable. And much nicer to be a hobbit rather than a boring old white dressed bridesmaid. Humm, will look out for her...

You could post on the Arts and Crafts section and see if anyone could make you one Smile

montmartre · 02/12/2011 14:10

So what is the bronze oak leaf for??? (and what is the book too please?)

funnypeculiar · 03/12/2011 16:56

Smile The book is Rangers Apprentice series - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger%27s_Apprentice - they are pretty good, actually - fantasy/medieval stuff. Good idea on arts & crafts, might try that...

OP posts:
funnypeculiar · 03/12/2011 17:14

Sorry, & the bronze oak leaf is the rangers symbol - you get a silver one when you're a full ranger, but ds knows he's still just an apprentice Grin

wigglybeezer · 03/12/2011 17:22

Make one! I made my older two hobbit cloaks were little out of grey fleece and a readily available pattern. Fleece does not fray so i didn't need to hem the cloaks.

My DS makes similar requests, I had to make a ninja outfit last year and this year he has asked for a "green robe" (he means a greek myths style affair).

wigglybeezer · 03/12/2011 17:23

My DS3 is 7 too.

funnypeculiar · 04/12/2011 09:58

wiggly, have you got a patter suitable for complete beginners? Am really incompetant...!
