Recently retired FIL -any artists?

My wonderful FIL has recently retired and has always been passionate about art but without much time.

He recently got an easel but isn't really a painter. In the past he has done pencil drawings and wood carvings but hasn't done anything in a long time.

I know nothing about art so was wondering if some wonderful mnetters can help with some ideas to get him started again - happy to spend up to £40ish.

How about art lessons?

My dh is an artist and often works in pencil. He suggests maybe getting a wide range of different pencils - not just HB, some really good quality paper, some small A5 sketch pads that can fit in his pocket and maybe a good quality set of watercolours. If you want more info I can ask him. Hope this helps.

Great ideas - thank you very much. I think the pencils and good quality paper and a small pad would be a really good start - lessons might be good as a next step come birthday time!
