Elf Day indeed.

Right, so last night I got the elf out of the box, cut off the label, perched him on th windowsill with number 1 advent chocolate thingy. It looked really lovely (better out of the box than in) and then....I read the bloody book Shock What a PILE!

All saccharine, American syrupiness, prayers this, bad children that...

So I shoved it all in the cupboard and have not mentioned it being the 1st dec, think I'll get the elf and chocolate back on the shelf for after school and not bother with the book...

Shhhhhhh - don't upset the elf!!!
He sees everything you know Grin

I have to admit that I really want an elf on the shelf(DS1 is 2 and DS2 is 1) and think they'll really love it but was wondering about the book. Have to admit I'm thinking of sourcing an alternative elf Blush

My ds, who is 3 LOVES the elf on the shelf. I set him up playing with the play mobile last night, ds came down and wad thrilled, but has trouble remembering not to touch the elf. so he bashed him with farmer pickles instead then shouted up to me "mummy, I deadded the elf on the shelf!"

WinterIsComing · 02/12/2011 12:57

The book is very American. Luckily DS can't read so I translated and paraphrased. A lot. Completely spoiling the rhymes Xmas Grin

"Deaded the elf" - brilliant!

He's watching me eat crisps and slate his book on Mumsnet the little fecker. Might have to hide him.

I just bought an elf from Amazon and told the kids he would report back to the Big Man.

Ive ditched the book!! Santa sent ds a letter with Alfie instead explaining about him! A much more fun version!!

I must admit I was a little disappointed with the book too.

Definitely very American. We too changed bits about prayers etc. Thankfully the girls are only 3 and 18mths so didn't notice. Originally I made a Elf and was going to use that but eventually got sucked into buying the proper Elf, thinking the book would help being a visual aid as the kids are so young. I needn't have bothered really!

But saying that the DC love the elf and enjoy him watching them and moving each night. He hasnt done anything too bad yet just moved places and used my laptop to make an 'Elf Yourself' video.
DH thought I was crazy at first but is slowly getting into it too suggesting places for him. Ive even given Elf his own blog :)

Grin on the 'Deadded' Elf!

It is very American, and the Elf is not of the best quality, I would have thought he would have bendy arms and legs. Not so!

Tonight our Elf will be looking at something on the lap top tonight, last night he was sat on top a pile of books reading, night before he has been sledging down the stairs on white loo roll with some toy cars.
