Agonised over Xmas table colour theme. How sad am I?!

I had to sit and have a coffee in The Range as I was actually annoying myself!

After years of gold'n'burgundy, this year I committed myself to something different by 'demanding' this crockery for my birthday so gold's out the window. But whether to team with white and silver/grey plus red or teal...... I prefer teal but knew I'd have to 'go the whole hog' to make it work.

So after fannying about I said Soddit and have gone teal. I can see the cat's-bum look on my mother's face right now Grin

I bought 4 teal wine glasses , matching tumblers and 8 shiny teal place mats.

I will get a silver and white based table runner, a white table cloth ( sheet, actually!) and have a plain silver candle stand for the centre.

There. Done it. Now to worry whether it will look rubbish against my ill-conceived moss coloured curtains?

Oh, all the Big Issues!

Especially as the only apprecients (made that word up: means- people who appreciate, OK?) will be DH and I as the DSs (10 and 12) won't care; mother's idea of a festive Xmas Eve meal after the carol service is sausage casserole; and my single brother who'd be happy with Ginster's pasty, a can of Fosters all dished up at a motorway service area......

That's funny! I stress about things like this too and nobody here cares either as long as there's food on the table. I'm sure subconsciously the reason my kitchen is red and cream and my living room is cream and brown is because the colours work so well with all my Christmas stuff, it gives me such pleasure but I'm aware it's very sad. (Your table does sound lovely though :))

We should invite each other around for Xmas dinner- at least we appreciate it! Grin

Decor-wise, my Big Mistake is the moss curtains. They're full length (and width), they cost £750 (!!), 2 sets, and were bought to 'match' the dark green slate fireplace surround that came with the house. We compounded the fireplace issue by getting a wood burning stove inserted into the opening.

Then I discovered textured stone paint so the fireplace is now a pleasing pale sandstone... but the bloody curtains still hang there, accusingly!

I've had the same type of dilema over the years. On a rational level you know it doesn't really matter if the napkins match the placemats or whatever, but you end up getting so worked up over all the little details.

Trying to find crackers that tie in with the decor, but have contents suitable for the children, is my big problem every year.

The children dont care and the adults are usually too pissed to notice.

Your teal scheme sounds lovely.

You could wait until after Christmas and get your curtains profesionally dyed perhaps. Though I like the sound of moss green.

Glad it's not just me:

a) stressing about it, and
b) recognising that no one else does!

Yet, somehow, I think it's just another one of those 'things' we do that no one apparently notices or cares about because we do it so well!

Seamless, me!

Now I'm in knots of indecision deciding whether to get silver snowflake confetti or clear iridescent snowflake confetti..... further complicated by the latter ebay seller doing an auction for it! An auction for £2 of confetti.

My nerves can't stand it.

I love your plates and glasses!

Properlush your name made me laugh.

Thanks ChristmasBreak!

Despite my misgivings I am warming to my teal theme! I do like a nicely colour co-ordinated Xmas, me!

I think teal will look great, even with the moss curtains. Obviously not sure of the exact colour of them but I'm sure with enough lush greenery of varying shades of green it will look awesome.
