Our local shopping centre run a chairty gift tree where you pick a child's name and age off the christmas tree and buy an annonymous gift for that child.

My DS is now 5 so have gotten him involved more than years gone by and today he picked an 8 year old boy because he has the same name.

We only have a budget of £15-18 so DS and I have decided to get this watch set, a small selection box and an annual of some sort.

Would your 8 year old appreciate this?

Also we have no idea who this child is so don't know likes/dislikes and am undecided about which type of annual to get, thinking of Top Gear, Lego, Ben 10 or Dr Who. ny suggestions?

Sorry for random thred just wanted to ask opinions, Thanks :)

my ds is 7.5 and while he would like the idea of a watch it would end up in a drawer somewhere! he is getting lego (small star wars sets), star wars models, a dr who tardis, mosi monster guess who game, a couple of wrestlers, famous five boxset, knights playmobil, hm armed forces ski thing - these would all be in your price range. As for annuals he is getting star wars, moshi monsters and the wrestling one -my ds and most of his friends are past ben 10. hope that helps

What a lovely thing to do.

DS is 8 and would be delighted with the annual ( Horrible Histories/Beano/Match! ) and the selection box. Not sure about the watch set, if I'm honest.

Deadly 60 is quite popular with lots of boys DS's age. How about the book and some cards?

My ds has that same set except his is orange in colour. He LOVES it and wears the watch and the necklace all the time. He had it in Sept on his birthday and the novelty hasn't worn off yetSmile. He's 10.

Top Gear or Beano annual. Others too uncertain if they'd be liked.
My 8yo boys would like the watch/gift set.

Thanks everyone, never thought of the Beano or Moshi Monsters, my 5YO DS is not into anything like that so never even occured to me, glad I asked now :).

The reason I thought about the watch because it's something the little boy could keep for himself and may not otherwise get because many of the children on the tree are children who are in foster care, at risk homes, severe poverty or in care units.

Wish I had more funds and I'd buy a full christmas for all of the children on the tree but unfortunately we are not in the position to help anymore than this.

I think the watch would be nice. The little boy will be able to wear it to school and join in with the 'I got this for Christmas' thing too.

Perhaps you could add one of those £1.99 Lego minifigs from WHSmith or newsagents. Just to satisfy any need for 'something to play with'?

to really get into Moshi Monsters they have to go online a lot, and pay a regular subscription fee, mine aren't into it, for instance. That's why I think Top Gear & Beano are more universally liked.
