Anyone know anything about remote controlled helicopters?

DS (7) is really hoping that father christmas might bring him a RC helicopter.

Am not convinced that it's a good idea as I'm assuming he's going to fly it into a wall/pylon/my ornaments/little brothers face etc and it's going to end up broken before the new year. However my DF would probablly be quite enthusiastic about 'teaching them to fly it' (by which I mean playing with it himself, of course).

Are there any particular brands that are more durable than others? And what about the controls, are they suitable for a 7YO? ...And (sorry, loads of questions!) what about one with a camera, I can imagine DS (and DF!) getting quite excited about that.

Ideally I don't want to spend any more than £40, but that's really stretching my budget as he's allready getting a DS.

tkmaxx has tons of these - usually £40 but often sell for £20 there - they are usually in the mens gadget section! Apparently they're fab!

Don't do it! They are a complete pita and break really easily.

just been to poundland and they have them for £15 red from £30 - look good too! - they're the managers special

A great Christmas present - my husband bought these for all the men in the family last year. We had great fun but don't fly them outside on a windy day.

I know that they break within the first 5 minutes and that they are virtually impossible to control. HTH.

Actually, I have had a thought, I could buy one for DF who usually spends boxing day playing with DS's toys entertaining the children for me (while I wrestle the heaps of cardboard into the recycling bin).

I'll have a look in our local poundland I think because I'll only come out of TKMAXX with a new dress, but I do think that science musem one is quite stylish
