Well its the run up really. My dh is like Victor Meldrew from just after Guy Fawkes up until Christmas Eve/Day. He says that people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas and the pushing and shoving and lack of manners he sees in the shops really fuckin annoys him. I can see his point of view but i get fed up with seeing him look so miserable about xmas. One year about five years ago he even said to give presents unwrapped just chucked into carrier bags cos he couldnt be bothered to help wrap them up. He hasnt suggested that since. Ive discovered cheap present bags and present boxes now we have Card Factory near us. I usually write all the cards as well but i dont mind that. Im just crap at wrapping. Does anyone else have a DP who hates this time of year to the point that they are snappy and irritable and how do you deal with it?

I don't think my DH enjoys the run up to Christmas. He's already suggested that we don't put the tree up until after the kids have broken up because "we'll all be bored of it by Christmas" if we put it up earlier! Me and the DC have vetoed that suggestion!

You need to have Scrooge or It's a Wonderful Life playing on a loop somewhere in the house. The true meaning of Christmas isn't to be a complete grumpy bastard, I'm sure.

carernotasaint Do we have the same dh? Hmm

I used to hate dh being like this, but now ds (4) now 'gets it', I dont mind so much! It means he cant steal my glory! He does get into it around midnight xmas eve (only because thats when us adults open our pressies!), it lasts until midnight christmas day, then its all ' well thats that done for another year' .

I agree though that christmas wouldnt be the same without a scrooge!

Mine loves 'It's a Wonderful Life' but hates all the rest of Christmas. He doesn't like the lights or the tree. He doesn't like the expense of presents and doesn't receive things terribly graciously either. Up to a couple of years ago he'd ask that we stay up til gone midnight on Christmas eve and open each others presents then. That is, until the year before last when he was so ungrateful for everything that he nearly made me cry. He has this habit of trying to guess what things are, but in a 'oh is that what you got me' rather than an excited way.

Last year I purposefully decided to go to bed early and avoid that. My excuse was so the DCs could see us giving each other presents too, but I did also tell him how annoyed I'd been the previous year. He was better after that.
He always drops hints about how nice it would be to not have to go to your Mums house to have a nice Christmas just the 4 of us too. I've already sorted that one this year.
