Did not notice until now when it was supposed to come out..... It was supposed to cook for 4 hours at 140 degrees, he turned it off maybe 1 - 2 hrs ago. Should I just put it back in for another two hours?

Thanks in advance!

Leave the bastard!

Meh, bung it back in and check it regularly. It will have carried on cooking for a while in the warm oven/hot tin.

And make sure you get a lie in tomorrow to make up for having to stay up late to sort it out Grin

Christmas cake is not finesse type baking. Just switch the oven on again and leave it another couple of hours. Enjoy!

Thanks - the oven didn't feel very hot at all Angry, although the cake looked cooked from the top......
Poor DH I have been a bit cross at him Blush
Think I might recheck it after another hour and maybe aim to cook it for another 1.5 hrs in total. I didn't think of the residual heat of the oven (too busy having a panic!)

Thank you Purple! just informed DH re the lie in - fantastic idea - I have a 17 month old who starts the day somewhere between 5 and 6 am, and DH never ever gets up..... but tomorrow he has agreed I can now stay snuggled under the covers - every cloud obviously does have a silver liningGrin
Thanks for all the advice - bit of a novice baker here, overcome by good Christmas intentions....its a relief to hear that fruit cake is not too fussy about timings......
