Should I have received details about Christmas Appeal by today?

Dysgu · 25/11/2011 20:57

That's it, basically. I offered a donation - I know I only got in on the last day but I did receive a confirmation email.

I have checked the original thread which lists today as the day by which we should have received an email with details and address of the recipient.

I appreciate this is a huge task to sort out but, if the emails have been sent, where is mine?

Anyone know?

Thumbwitch The Amazon Gift Voucher page says this: 'Gift certificates and gift cards cannot be redeemed at Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.jp, Amazon.cn, Amazon.it or at any of Amazon.co.uk's Trusted Partner sites.'

The matching is supposed to be anonymous, however I don't think it would be hard to work out who mine is, so have namechanged to post about Christmas just in case - I suppose I could PM the person I think it is and ask if they have a UK account. But then it might not be who I think it is, and that would open up a whole new world of confusion!

Will have to have a think.

Last year, mine was an expat who'd had a really tough year, so I worked out who it was, and found out a few helpful bits of information from her posts, so I could get some suitable stuff. I had offered a voucher but had the same issues as you Narod.
I used amazon and ebay in her country and I told the ebay seller what I was doing, so the delivery address wouldn't be an issue. She was as excited about the whole business as me!!

This year I have someone in the Midlands, and had offered a voucher, but really am a bit stumped, as I don't think I have enough information to play detective! She has 2 children, so I'd like to send a small gift for the kids as well as a voucher for somewhere. Vouchers are no fun to buy are they!

jetzombie · 26/11/2011 22:18

I like the ideas on here - will prob do a voucher and some bits Smile thanks chaps!

Whatevertheweather · 26/11/2011 22:28

Right I'm confused doesn't take much I offered to send a gift direct from Amazon for either adult or child/ren. Have had my email - it doesn't specify/mention that the mnetter has any children so do you think I am right to assume it's for a female adult??

Oh and is there a date to send them or do we just send now? Questions, questions. Sorry Blush

WinterIsComing · 26/11/2011 23:40

I would be scared to send a parcel not recorded delivery so I'm wondering if if I could put something else rather than, "to the MNer of the house" if it has caused problems in the past.

Date - don't know.

Is there a definitive thread about the practicalities? If not - should there be one?

I might report this and ask HQ to keep an eye on it for a few days and then answer all the questions. What do you think?

RebeccaMumsnet · 27/11/2011 00:28

Hello all,

Thanks for reporting this thread.
Well it is a minefield isn't it?

We use 'the mumsnetter of the house' to keep it an anonymous as possible, some people have said it is fine to hand over RL names and we have done this for a few.

If the poster is abroad we have tried to be as specific as possible but this isn't always possible.

If the value of your gift (if specified) is not large but we have matched you with a family with a gazillion children, fear not. We don't expect you to cater for all of them, we will have matched them with others.

If we have matched you with just the MNetter it is fine to assume that they are female (we have said if they are not) and there is a reason we have done so e.g. they deserve a lovely treat just for them. In this instance, if you donated vouchers something like Boots/ JL/ Debenhams etc would be lovely, just think what you would like.

There is no set date to post but any time from now is fine to avoid the Christmas madness.

Any questions please do email or ask here and report your post and we will do our best to answer. The appeal is rather mahooosive this year and we have tried our best to match with an appropriate MNetter.

We still have one or two bits to fix, so if you haven't heard or you have emailed me because I have made a few mistakes Blush we will be mailing you early next week to get it all ironed out.

Rebecca - I have just sent an email to the nominations email address, hope it helps a bit. :)

RebeccaMumsnet · 27/11/2011 09:04

Thanks Thumb Smile

Dysgu · 27/11/2011 16:51

I am now feeling slightly jealous of everyone who already has a match. I am thinking it was a good thing to start this thread as there seem to be lots of questions about 'etiquette' for this kind of thing.

That said, I still have not received my match so I guess I will do so in the next few days. Good to see that the appeal if big this year so lots of people must be going to receive some lovely stuff.

I haven't had a confirmation email yet!Sad

Haribojoe · 27/11/2011 20:00

Thanks Rebecca, one more question.

I have several children for my match (not a problem as said I could probably help 2 families depending on cost) was going to buy toy for each child.

Should I wrap the presents or just send in box so mumsnetter of house knows what they are getting and is it bad form to include gift receipt in case I buy something they already have or is not suitable!

Am looking forward to special shopping trip for them Smile

It is completely up to you. In the past folks have bought presents for the children and included wrapping for the MNetter to do herself and this has worked well or you could wrap and maybe pop a note in so that the MNetter doesn't buy a duplicate?

Haribojoe · 27/11/2011 20:44

Thanks Rebecca Smile

smokinaces · 27/11/2011 21:49

Rebecca I've had no email either? Have checked Spam folder too?

RebeccaMumsnet · 28/11/2011 08:37

@smokinaces

Rebecca I've had no email either? Have checked Spam folder too?

Found and sent over.

The email address that we have for you must be an old one, have replied to the one you mailed your donation in from.
Hope that's ok, let us know if not?

thesurgeonsmate · 28/11/2011 11:03

Complex! I didn't specify really what I wanted to give, and I do have a match with a large family - are you saying they might have another match also? Vouchers would be best, then, to avoid duplication?

mumdebump · 28/11/2011 11:28

What is this Christmas Appeal?

smokinaces · 28/11/2011 13:35

Got it Rebecca, thank you. Glad I got someone, even though my donation is small. No idea about the email address, its worked up until this weekend as I get notifications and things? How odd!

WillbeanChariot · 28/11/2011 17:31

I am glad I've found this thread- I didn't specify either and have a match, was planning to put some suitable things and maybe a voucher all in together, not wrapped, and let the mum decide what to do with them. Does that sound ok?

13194thankyou · 30/11/2011 09:50
