Me: what will you be asking Santa for?
DS2: I would like a little house where you press a button and the doors open and close and open and close and open and close and open and...
Me: Oh, a transformer? Something that transforms into a different thing? Like a ship into a robot?
DS2: No, a little house.
Me: A little house transformer?
DS2: No, not a transformer, a little house with a button you press and the doors open and close and open and close and open and close and open and...
Me: that's very specific.
DS2: ... and close and open and close and you only have to press the button once not lots of times.
Me: mmm, Santa might find that one a bit hard, is there anything else you'd like?
DS2: No, I only want a little house with a button you press and the doors open and close and open and close and open and close and open and...

Help! He is 4.3 and finds it hard to adapt if things aren't how he expects.

Any suggestions as to something that would come near to meeting his criteria?

It wouldn't be too hard to make with a few electronic components from Maplin, if you or your DH are handy that way.

JeremyVile · 25/11/2011 20:34

Grin @ the conversation...i've been there!
I cant help but you ahve my sympathies, have had almost identical scenario here (different toy) and have just spent £75 on some bit of tat (that ds is going to LOVE!)that we finally tracked down. Oh and only about £25 was for the actual toy, the rest was shipping and import tax Hmm

tanfastic · 25/11/2011 20:35

Oh crikey, that's a hard one! Kids eh? Ummmm?

My 3.5 said that he wants Santa to bring him a monster with a penguin that bites your nose. Might have my work cut out there.

JeremyVile · 25/11/2011 20:36

Does he maybe mean something like one of those Swiss(?) clocks, cuckoo type thing?
Have you asked him where he has seen it?

ginmakesitallok · 25/11/2011 20:39

When DD1 was 3 she wanted a motorbike - no clues as to what sort of motorbike, we weren't sure if she was talking about a real life big sized one or a toy one. We ended up buying a variety of motorbikes (PFB??)

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 25/11/2011 20:42

Could it be a garage or fire station type building, with doors that open? Bob the Builder or Fireman Sam type thing perhaps?

LydiaWickham · 25/11/2011 20:43

Does he mean a dolls house with electronic doors? Could you ask if he's seen it somewhere before? (could a friend have one, or their be a similar one at nursery/school?)

Do you need us all googling dolls houses?

SandyChick · 25/11/2011 20:51

Could it be the Imaginext batcave? My ds is 4.4 yrs and has asked for this. It's been advertised on tv quite a bit.

There was also a fire station that opened up like a dolls house. I think it might have been part of the Imaginext range too.

piratecat · 25/11/2011 20:53

blimey, that is specific. ask again in a few days!

or big up something else you have seen, and can actually buy.

my dd wants Mark Owen for xmas!

Bluebell99 · 25/11/2011 20:55

Why not take him to a large toy shop like toysrus and get him to show you what it is? Or maybe he will see something else there that he likes.

unreasonableismyname · 25/11/2011 20:58

I don't think he'll have seen the bats cave sandychick but I shall investigate in case it comes close to meeting his exacting requirements.

lydiawickham I think he definitely would like a dolls house with electronic doors. Do such things exist?

JeremyVile I think he'd have specified a cuckoo clock as he knows what they are from Peppa Pig. I'm fairly sure that he has dreamt up this toy himself in his imagination, and in his 4yo way can't comprehend why it might not be immediately to hand, for Santa.

unreasonableismyname · 25/11/2011 21:02

I don't think it's the bat cave. For one thing, it's lacking the button you press and the doors open and close and open and close and open and close and open and...

insanityscratching · 25/11/2011 21:15

What about this? It has doors doorbells and locks and keys Smile

JeremyVile · 25/11/2011 21:16

Have been googling and cant find anything that fits the bill, plenty of dolls houses with lights, but none so far with a door that opens and closes and opens and closes and opens and closes...

nickschic · 25/11/2011 21:20

jack in a box??

unreasonableismyname · 25/11/2011 22:00

insanityscratching I have just looked at that with DH and said OMG that is exactly the sort of thing that would appeal. No opening door, but if we can't meet his specifications he may forget it in the face of 4 locks and matching keys. And the doorbells, oh the doorbells. He would be enraptured...

OP posts:
insanityscratching · 25/11/2011 22:05

It's exactly the thing mine would have loved too Grin

tibni · 25/11/2011 22:10

wow insanityscratching my ds (severe ASD, Learning Difficulties) will love that doorbell house - thank you.

unreasonableismyname · 25/11/2011 22:13

insanityscratching this was what he got for his 4th birthday among other things. He was given lots of bigger toys by other people but this playmobil safe was the thing he obsessed over and took to bed with him. Might appeal to yours too tibni

OP posts:
tibni · 25/11/2011 22:18

How does it work insanityscratching? Is it a code or numbers? Ds has lots of playmobil vehicles that he loves.

hdoodle · 25/11/2011 22:19

This is a petrol station but it has a button on top that will open the sliding doors. But it only opens once, not multiple times. I agree with Footprints that it wouldn't be hard to rig up a dollhouse with some electronics. If that's not your forte, find a local electronics club, model train club etc and ask for help. Most will love any sort of problem to solve and will be happy to help.

tibni · 25/11/2011 22:23

sorry unreasonableismyname - just realised it was you suggested the safe. ds is so into doors opening and shutting, keys, locks etc I was getting over excited!

insanityscratching · 25/11/2011 22:27

tibni, unreasonable will know about the safe.

My dd also ASD had http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELC-THREE-LITTLE-PIGS-PLAYSET-/390346396226#ht_801wt_1185 this because she loved unlocking the doors.
The Melissa and Doug set would have made her day though Smile
