How do I "give to charity" for Xmas?

Silly question I'm sure but I want to do something for charity instead of buying Xmas cards this year and just want ideas of the kind of thing to give rather than just handing over cash.

My dd's dance school have decided to buy a tin of dog food and a toy/blanket to take to the
local dog shelter which I think is a lovely idea so this has inspired me to do something similar. Ideas please? Tia

Our local Sainsburys has a scheme where you can buy a toy and put it in a designated trolley for the local hospital children's department. Very worthy cause!

You can do an e-card and donate to GOSH! Though it says soon - they better get a move on as people start sending now!

This is a scheme we have done at school before rather than all the kids sending each other cards poster

Great ideas, dc's have said they are going to make a Xmas card for their teacher to read out to the class wishing everyone a Merry Xmas and that money is going to charity instead of individual cards Smile DS has it in his head that he'd rather give to the homeless (sonething like blankets)than to the supermarket schemes, DD wants to give to premature babies hmmm I think I may end up giving away a lot Hmm
