My DH has announced he wants lamb on Christmas Day. Lamb!!! I thought he was joking but, no, he is serious.

What's worse my mother agrees with him.

Tell them they can have lamb if he can chase one down, kill it and butcher it- all by himself!

Turkey or Goose is the traditional Christmas bird, Beef would have been acceptable at a push, but lamb?

We have lamb on Christmas Day. Beef on boxing day. I buy a turkey but only to keep youngest ds happy.

Do it! we never have turkey, usually goose, sometimes venison. Is so so much nicer than sodding turkey.
A lovely autumn lamb is delicious as well, can be slow-cooked and has loads more flavour new spring lambs.

I think it's a great idea! We very rarely have turkey as no-one's really keen on it.

We have chicken because it's cheaper and tastes nicer than turkey. I'd totally go for lamb or beef if it wasn't so expensive. Sod tradition, make your own ones.

Urgh... I hate Turkey so we have Lamb and/or beef on Christmas Day...Delia has an AMAZING lamb with Shrewsbury Sauce recipe - it is truly scrumptious and my mouth is watering as I type... :)

I am trying to get dh to agree to .NO Xmas dinner (he would cook it). I can see I might be on a loser here by the replies to the OP.....

We have lamb or pork or both if they're enough of us. We don't like turkey. Never had goose before, what's that like? Is it dry like turkey?

We are having a Christmas ham. Turkey is too big for a family of 3 and dd doesn't like it. Could have been worse, he could have suggested a 4 bird roast thing from aldi.

Goose is delicious. Dark meat a little like duck. It's expensive though, they're a bit skinny. I think Lidl or Aldi do a decent one quite cheap though.

OP - cook a nice bird and do lamb chops for your crazy husband and mum.

I wanted duck & gammon but the inlaws don't like duck so it's turkey and gammon.

This will be the first year that I've had turkey on Christmas Day. I don't like turkey!

Salmon! Roasted, with nice veg. Minimal fuss & no waste.

We're having beef, don't think anyone in our family actually likes turkey.

One year DH & I made a (lentil) lasagne on Christmas Eve to reheat the next day. Maximised our time getting gently pissed in front of the telly (was before children...)
