Non chocolate advent calendar ideas

I saw a thread a few weeks ago about using lovely christmassy arts and craft activities, trips out etc for advent calendars. Can someone point me in the direction of the thread or give me some ideas of things to do with the DS's 4&2yrs for their advent calendars?

Thanks.

There are paper only advent calendars in WH Smith, too.

I have ones that I put up every year. I normally put chocolate in them and DH normally buys them another chocolate one too. Am trying to cut down the overdose of chocolate before 6.30am. Grin

There are some wonderful Playmobil and Lego advent calendars - quite reasonable (under £20) and you build up a great scene day by day - animals in the forest, or nativity scene etc. It actually works out quite good value just for the figures.

Thanks wisebird. I was actually hoping to do things with the children ie snowflake making, choosing a tree. That sort of thing.
