Is decorating with holly considered 'common' then?

Just wondered?

I thought it was traditional.

Seems I could be wrong?

What do you think?

Not at all.

We decorate the house with holly, and we are posh.

531800000008 · 23/11/2011 20:08

quite, George, same here

we trog out to the woods and steal cut boughs

flybynight · 23/11/2011 20:33

What in God's name is common about holly?

What are we supposed to use? It is common because you can get it for nowt so no-one is making a profit from it?

I'm so angry tonight. Calm, calm, calm.

flybynight · 23/11/2011 20:36

And tinsel is fine too. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

AlexandraMary · 23/11/2011 20:39

Common, really? Better tell my properly posh mother in law.

HarrietSchulenberg · 23/11/2011 20:43

Plastic holly with tons of red-berry-beads is common. Especially if it has glitter in. And lights. I appear to own some of this but I can't for the life of me think where it came from.

Real holly isn't common - it's lovely.

champagnesupernova · 23/11/2011 20:45

Who has made you think this??

ninah · 23/11/2011 20:47

depends what you are decorating
house, no
hohoho vajazzle, probably

smartyparts · 23/11/2011 20:51

Don't tell me this.

I do a lovely swag over my ingelnook, ergo posh!

bytheMoonlight · 23/11/2011 21:10

Another MN'ers mother was told it was common ... hang on, let me link to here.

Sure they didn't mean from the common? Grin

No. It is most definitely not common to decorate with real holly.

OriginalPoster · 23/11/2011 21:17

I make wreaths with it for my front door, I mix it with other winter foliage and wire it to a red tinsel coat hanger à la Blue Peter.

I am very, very posh, so it can't be common

the holly and the iveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 23/11/2011 21:22

Can't stop sniggering about post regarding using holly to vajazzle and then next post covering her ingelnook in holly. Ouch.

Oh it's been a long day, cut me some slack!

I cut a lot from the woods on Sunday, and every man and his wife was out doing the same - in Switzerland - probably the world's poshest country!

startail · 23/11/2011 21:32

My Holly bush doesn't have many berries so I decorate it with red fairy lights and leave it in the gardern.

smartyparts · 23/11/2011 21:57

I put fairy lights in mine too, Jajas.

It's vair not common Grin

bytheMoonlight · 23/11/2011 22:42

I saw lots in the woods on Sunday ... but thought it would be too early too cout, am I wrong?

timidviper · 23/11/2011 22:46

Of course it's not common. I will be decorating the twiggy shit next to my leather sofas with it in a rather posh fashion Smile

Who cares? If you can't get a bit common and tacky at christmas, when can you?

Last year I bought some really good fake holly in the sale.
This year I bought some fab red berry lights that I'm going to put on it.

My real holly days are over. Until I get bored with my fake stuff.

bytheMoonlight · 24/11/2011 00:21

Jajas I like the date. It gives me structure and confidence. Thank you Smile
