yet another - what on earth to get DP? thread

I know it's been done - but I am stuck with was to get DP. I think I'm dead easy to get for - I'll always appreciate jewellry, clothes, smellies, books whatever. DP on the other hand....

He's difficult to buy clothes for, not really into gadgets or jewellry. He does cycle and run a lot (but is probably getting bored with running tops/bottoms/trainers). He does like art - but again hard to choose for someone else.

So come on - what should get him (if he ends up with pants/socks again I am blaming YOU!!)

What's the budget gin?

Are there any Art magazines you could get a subscription to?
I know there are running magazines you can get subscriptions to as my dh gets one.

Would he like a gps watch so he can track his runs and cycles (dh has one and enjoys logging in after his runs to see how far he went, how fast he went, where he slowed etc).

Could you take him on a trip somewhere like Paris to visit the Art Galleries?

Could you commission a piece of art to represent you and your family? Or a plate with significant names and dates on it (although, what would he do with the plate?)

Up to about £100. I got him a polar watch a couple of years ago with heart monitor etc. A trip somewhere would be magic - but with 2 wee ones that's not going to happen soon! Don't think he'd appreciate a plate...

Maybe a subscription to running world or Juxtapose?

Have also see these..for his phone which he would love?

I am struggling as well gin as dh has his birthday at the start of December. He has asked for a pair of these as he gets sore feet after he has been running (he is a long distance runner). I think he plans to use them round the house only. I hope he does anyway Hmm

He has also asked for this as he is a keen golfer. I don't know if they help with other sports.

He has also asked for a Tassimo machine - I don't know if your dh likes fancy coffees.

Other than that, he is getting Fat Face fluffy socks, M&S pyjamas, a photocalendar with the dcs and the dog in it (and him at the finish line of a few races), a ridiculously expensive Audi keyring for his new car, and I will get him some chocs too.

I will watch with interest as he sounds similar to my dh and I am stuck for Christmas now.

Is he artistic himself? Maybe you could get him lessons in something like glass fusing or painting etc.

Have a look here, might help with ideas.

Dp has asked for running gloves, whatever the heack they are! And 'posh' running socks, instead of the cheap M&S ones I bought him last year. He's just subscribed to Runners World and spends hours reading and re-reading them.

How about whatshisname Marukami's (sp?) book - it's called, 'What I Think About When I Think About Running' or something like that.

pointydog · 23/11/2011 19:43

Does he listen to music while running? I'm thinking of specially selected ipod with toons.

ginmakesitallok · 23/11/2011 20:23

Remus - is your dp my dp???My DP got the gloves and socks cheap in Aldi's - and has read all of Murakami's books. Spooky.

He doesn't listen to music while running - but maybe he should start!

Scary - my dp doesn't listen to music when running either! If your dp is tall, skinny and bald and lives in Birmingham, we may have a problem! :)

ginmakesitallok · 23/11/2011 21:00

Tall and skinny - not bald yet and nowhere near Birmingham - phew!

Are you sure it's not a wig? Grin

ginmakesitallok · 23/11/2011 21:20

Pretty sure.... Where is your's now?? If he's here watching the football then you are right and we do have a problem. So - what are you getting our non-music listening Murakami reading DP for Christmas??

We're okay. Mine is watching David Attenburgh!

Thus far, I've bought him nothing. But I want to get him something really nice, as it's been a bit of a rough year for various reasons. His mum died in the summer.

I thought of a Kindle but he says he wants lots of little things rather than one big expensive thing!

I'm thinking of maybe doing him a box of running 'bits' - gloves, socks, energy bar, sports drink etc - I may have to sneak a look in his magazines and see what they recommend!

Some books - Marakami's new one perhaps and he wants Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Maybe some Raymond Chandler.

A stocking of foodie bits and peices - chutney, pickles, a pork pie etc

Absolutely no idea what else though.

Oh and The Fall have a new CD out, so will get him that.
