Classic fairytale sets for almost 4 yr old

I'm looking for a set of classic tales like Hansel and Gretel, the Gingerbread man etc that a 3.10 would like and that his 2yr old brother could listen to without getting bored. I loved Ladybird books but think they might be a bit much. Anything out there with nice illustrations I could get for Christmas. I have big fat hardback collections but I never open them.

Do you have one of those discount book shops near you? We have one called Bookends, it closes down with a sale every so often then re-opens with a new name but is the same shop. They often have gorgeous children's books, including the classics. I got some beautifully illustrated large size copies of the Alice books and The Secret Garden recently and they were only 3 for £10 Grin I would go mad but I am stopped by the weight of books I can carry each time...

Have a look at Waterstones too, this time of year they have lots of lovely editions of the classics because they are so popular for xmas.

Thanks I'm kind of in the sticks and do a lot of online shopping but I will venture into the city to do my Christmas shopping so will check out bargain books.

I second Bookends on the high street or The Works.

If you want children's books online, google Redhouse - I get most of our kids books from there. Like a book club (massive discounts) but without the subscription and with no minimum purchases. Free delivery above a certain order size. Highly recommended.

Just seen 2 box sets of Ladybird Fairytales in Debenhams online. One set is 'Princesses' and the other is 'Classic', which has Gingerbread Man etc. On sale at the mo but sale 'ends tonight'. Can't yet hyperlink, but put Ladybird in Debenhams search engine and they pop right up.
