Toddler trucks and wheelybugs - what age?

DS is just about to turn 9ms. I've got the IKEA toddle truck in storage for him as a Christmas present, but all the toddle trucks are recommended for 12m+. Is there a particular reason why they're not simply for babies who are starting to walk? My DS is crawling and has started pulling himself up to standing, and there's very little for him in his toybox that he likes other than ELC cars and a noisy phone. He's not interested in stacking cups or anything intellectual like that. Would it be too early for him to be using the toddle truck once he's steadier on his feet, which may well be before Christmas?

The next question is aimed at people with wheelybugs. DS is tall (on the 91st centile). Assuming he gets a wheelybug for his 1st birthday in 3 months' time, should we go for the small or the large one? His feet just about reach the ground on the large one, and the small one seems as if he'd grow out of it very quickly, though it's recommended up till 2.5 years. It seems a bit silly to buy one he'll grow out of quickly as they're really expensive, even if he has to wait a while before he can use it IMO, but I'd be interested in what other people think/wish they'd done..

my DS loved his trolley - which I guess is the same things at about 9 months

wheelybugs - they are a very cute but TBH I would get a cheap plastic ride on - one which has a storage bit in the seat are very popular - they have loads more play value than the wheelybugs and loads cheaper -but if you do get one get the big one -

I got small wheelie bug for DD 1st birthday. 75th centile so her height was fine for it at this age, but she had little interest in it. More interested by the time she was 2, but then she seemed too big for the small wheeliebug.

With hindsight, I'd go for the large one, but don't be disappointed if you have to wait a little for your DS to grow (physically and mentally) into it.

My 7yo rides a small wheelybug in preference to the big one. I like wheely bugs as you can use them as a walker but if you already have a toddle truck I would get a scuttlebug rather than a wheelybug.

My children love the wheelybug! The small one has done mine just fine as by the time they are outgrowing it, they have outgrown playing with it really iyswim. (That said my 5 year old sometimes has a go still). My nearly 2-year-old really loves it atm.

Definitely not too early with the toddle truck. We let DS loose on the ikea one at 7.5 months and he actually toddled with it which he loved, especially as he didn't walk unaided until a year, so yes, I think it's a great idea!
