Lego advent calendars- are they worth the money?

Ive always looked at them and rejected them because of the price. DS1 (6) has asked for one this year ( he rarely asks for anything) . He loves lego and seems to think they will be full of lego figures- is this correct and are they worth paying for?

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Yes they are brilliant. I got dh one our first Xmas. He was 28.

AFuckingKnackeredWoman · 18/11/2011 19:41

Yes they are brill for lego fans.

DS1 is having the Lego city one and DH is having the Lego star wars one, it has a santa yoda in it!

orienteerer · 18/11/2011 19:45

I've finally given in this year for DS(9), the Lego City one (thought he'd go for the Star Wars one, I like the Yoda!). We are already drowning in Lego so not entirely pleased with myself for giving in! He has also just asked Father Christmas for a £70 Lego 'Alien" set.........I've just told him Santa can't stretch to £70 (mean Mother emotion!).

I got one last year and ds 1 loved it but I think they're overpriced so won't get one this year as i'm too skint.

chirpchirp · 18/11/2011 23:35

I got myself and DH the Star Wars one this year. It looks brilliant but we're both big kids so would say that.

yellowflowers · 18/11/2011 23:35

Could you make your own with Lego you already have?

MmeBucket · 18/11/2011 23:36

I got one for the DC's to share and it looks like something the kids will really enjoy. (This is the disclaimer where I say I had Amazon vouchers, so I got it for free.) I obviously haven't opened it up, but if you check the reviews for it on Amazon (at least the U. S. site) there are a list of mini-figures and photographs for you to see.

DS is so excited over his Lego Calendar he has taken it to bed several times and I have had to rescue it. He is aware that it is little bits that make up big bits as he has studied the diagram of pieces on the side for hours. made a little. He has even decided where he ias going to put it and made space

NormanTheForeman · 19/11/2011 12:19

Ds has had them in the past and liked them, but they are quite pricey. In the Lego City ones you would probably get about 3 minifigures, and the other bits would all be small items to put together.

Playmobil advent calendars are also good, and I think have a bit more in them than the Lego ones (and are less expensive).

Zippylovesgeorge · 19/11/2011 16:19

Try ebay you might be able to get a 2nd hand one??

We have a playmobil one - comes out most years - a tradition in its own right :)

MarieFromStMoritz · 19/11/2011 16:20

Most definitely! My DS loved his last year. Am trying to get another one for this year. It was great! Every day you get a new (Christmas-themed) piece to put together.

Me and DH loved it, too Smile

There's a Star Wars one? Where? My DS is Star Wars mad! Anyone know where I can get one online (I'm not in the UK)?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/11/2011 02:42

They are alot of money but we are all Lego mad and get them every year.

I nearly combusted with excitement when the Star Wars ones came out. Yoda in a Santa suit!!!!

Amazon do them Marie or Lego store online.

WidowWadman · 22/11/2011 10:34

I bought my husband one every year before we had the kids and still think they're great

wangle99 · 22/11/2011 13:13

MariefromStMoritz I've ended up with two star wars, you are welcome to purchase it from for the price I paid plus postage to you if you wish :o)

MarieFromStMoritz · 22/11/2011 13:28

Thanks wangle99, but I live overseas. Thanks for the offer, though.

wangle99 · 23/11/2011 16:00

I don't mind posting overseas (unless you feel the postage is too high) Still not to late!

Frostyfoxy · 23/11/2011 16:35

Smyths toy shop does them too - they were on offer a little while ago and were much cheaper than the lego store!
