I've got two children, dd who is nearly 9 and ds who is 5.5. DD got a ds lite for Christmas when she was 6-nearly-7. We've kind of always planned for this to be the Christmas that our son got one, probably a dsi. However we had more or less changed our minds about that as dd's is hardly played with, both play on our phones, plus dh's ipad and with dd reading easily now entertaining them both in waiting rooms/restaurants etc isn't an issue.
So - neither of them really getting a 'big' gift, just a couple of smaller things they want each, books, PJs etc and a new wii game, dvd set between them.
But dh has just upgraded his iPhone. And instead of trading in the old one we thought - why not hang on to it and remove sim so it's effectively an iPod touch for dd? We've already got a docking station that would do for her room. I'm quite keen on this plan for lots of reasons. She's currently got a 1st gen iPod which can go into ds's room for him to listen to audiobooks.
She won't get this 'for Christmas' as such, but I am already feeling guilty that ds isn't getting an equivalent and that he's missing out because he's the youngest. I think he probably won't notice if we don't make a big thing out of giving the old iPhone to dd - it's not as if he hasn't got plenty to play on - but it's not 'his' iyswim.
WDYT?
