1 cup of plain flour
1 cup water
4 teaspoons of cream of tartar
half a cup of salt

mix it all together in a small pan, mix with a wooden spoon over a low heat until it forms a dough and goes darker.
Turn it out on to a board and knead it until it's pliable

is a cup a set measurement or just a way of getting the % right?

should i use a tea cup?

A cup is an official measurement, but tbh it really won't make much of a difference if you use a large teacup or mug. x

I've just looked at my cups - a cup is 250ml :)

These are on my list of things to do, aswell! I bought a really cute snowman cutter/stamp from TKMaxx yesterday which I hope will be perfect for the job.

I have a tutorial I did a couple of weeks ago which might help :)

Quick question! Could you paint finished decorations in PVA glue?? Would it have the same effect as vranish??

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 14/11/2011 11:46

*varnish

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 14/11/2011 11:56

Another question! Blush
Can you use food colouring instead of paint??

GrooveIsInTheFart · 14/11/2011 12:02

Thanks. I was wondering about paint and varnish too.

I am not sure what everyone else has found but my salt dough decorations havent lasted after one year, the are pretty fragile and chip easily.

That said they are easy to make and look great. I spray mine with gold paint and if making them with children you can add glitter!
