I'm sitting listening to my Spotify Christmas playlist and was just wondering what everyones favourite Christmas songs are. I've got some cheesy ones on there - Cliff etc Blush but they all remind me of when I was little and make me feel all Christmassy!

My favourite carols are Hark the herald, God rest ye merry gentlemen and Oh come all ye faithful.

Favourite songs - Srop the cavalry, Christmas wrapping and Step into Christmas.

I love John Rutter Christmas music and Britten's Adam lay y'bounden and ceremony of carols. Tricky to sing, but glorious to listen to.

Traditional carols- The Sussex carol, It came Upon the Midnight Clear, and Away in a Manger

Songs- I love Trans-Siberian orchestra stuff, and Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride, Jingle bell rock and Fairytale of New York by the Pogues.

We have about 4 CDs but might be tempted by Michael buble new Christmas one if anyone can recomend?

chirpchirp · 13/11/2011 00:06

What Christmas Means to Me by Stevie Wonder is one of my favourites. Also have a lovely rat pack cd full of Christmas songs which I love!

LordOfTheFlies · 13/11/2011 00:17

Today in Tescos I heard Fairytale of New York playing- but I couldn't tell if it was The Pogues or that Ronan bleurg Keating cheap'n'nasty cover (you scumbag you maggot, you're cheap and you're haggard- I ask you)

So I cannot say if Christmas has officially begun.
Has to be The Pogues.

I think this is fantastic...

about 19 second in it just becomes this beautiful hopeful sound...

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 13/11/2011 00:28

I wish it was Christmas today, by Julian Casablancas has become a firm favourite with my ds6 and I, as we have lovely memories of grooving round the kitchen last year to Radio 6 waiting for our mince pies to come out of the oven....

I've got my love to keep me warm, by Dean Martin makes me feel snuggly inside too.

I love but one of them (even rubbishy old Chris Rea) and that's the Mike Oldfield one,it drives me crazy, I mean in the chaotic shops do we need that filling jarring electric guitar...grrrrrrr

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/11/2011 00:29
and Grin where are the Christmas emoticons when you need them?
Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 13/11/2011 00:30

All but one I meant, sorry...here's Julian....

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/11/2011 00:35

But is probably my favourite. I remember hearing this at the Thursford Christmas Spectacular where the choir(accapella) were all around the auditorium (true surround sound)- my ultimate, perfect, favourite christmas moment.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 13/11/2011 00:35

Arrgghh Brigit..my nemesis Grin!!!

WhatWouldLeoDo · 13/11/2011 00:47

Good King Wencelas is my favourite carol I think. Wham's Last Christmas is a bit of a favourite song because it was the first record I bought. Looking forward to listening to Christmas playlist!

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 13/11/2011 00:51

Ah Wham, did anyone else watch the video as a kid and almost ache with longing to be that sophisticated - having Christmas in a Swiss chalet with friends, dressed in your best jumpsuit and snood!

I even had the brooch that George gave his faux girlfriend. Heehee!

Funnily enough I live in Switzerland now...must try and find out the location of the chalet.

LikeACandleButNotQuite · 13/11/2011 00:57

Once in Royal David City
Walking in the Air
All I Want for Christmas is You (Because of Love Actually)

carernotasaint · 13/11/2011 18:00

My fave Christmas songs are I Was Born on Christmas Day by St Etienne (even though my birthday is in June) and a lovely song called All I Want For Christmas is New Years Day by Hurts which came out last Christmas. It should have been last years Xmas no 1 in my opinion but thanks to X Factor (ugh) no one else stands a chance.

LordOfTheFlies · 13/11/2011 18:17

Girl in a Sports Car by Chris Rea - many years ago Chris Evans kept playing it and said it sounded Chrismassy and he's right (though theirs no mention of Christmas in the title)

and Are we Human by The Killers. For no reason whatsoever I think it sounds festive!

LineRunnerSaturnalia · 13/11/2011 18:45
by Jonah Lewie.

A Christmas song that's brilliant.

lizzieloubee1 · 10/12/2011 16:47

In in Bleak Midwinter is my favourite carol. The Holst version though, I do not like the Darke tune AT ALL. Closely folllowed by Silent Night.

Misteltoe and Wine is my favourite Christmas song. Memories of singing/signing it in choir years ago.

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 10/12/2011 16:52

That Xmas song by Mick Hucknall's a bit shite.

molepomandmistletoe · 10/12/2011 16:54

The Holly and The Ivy
White Christmas
(Have yourself) A merry Christmas - Michael Buble and I'm afriad to say I've been listening to it for over a month now
Jingle Bells

there's more but those spring to mind

TeamDamon · 10/12/2011 17:03

Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel is one of my favourite carols, as well as In The Bleak Midwinter (Darke, not Holst!) and The Shepherd's Farewell.

I also like the David Bowie/Bing Crosbie Little Drummer Boy Grin

Christmas songs: Chris de Burgh's A Spaceman Came Travelling and Fairytale of New York.

Bucharest · 10/12/2011 17:11

All of them.

But at the moment my favourite 2 versions are O Holy Night and When A Child Is Born both by Il Divo (youtube them, there is something inexplicably fwooooary about big men in suits standing bellowing with their legs open Xmas Grin)

Trad carols like O Little Town of Bethlehem make me cry. (In a good way)

Bucharest · 10/12/2011 17:12

(but anything by Michael Bubbly Baubles makes me want to brillo pad my ears)

tummytickler · 10/12/2011 17:22

O Holy Night is the best Christmas song, I love it, and would listen to it all year (but dh would think I was mental!) Also God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, We Three Kings and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Carol of the Bells.

Also love Fairytale of New York and The Power of Love

Bucharest · 10/12/2011 20:07

tummytickler- then you need the Il divo version! (Ido listen all year, but with headphones!)
