Cooking-related something for 11yo DS and a digital photo frame for MIL - ideas?

Right, I had the genius idea of buying a chef's blowtorch for ds, who enjoys cooking and loves creme bruleƩ. And then I came to my senses Grin

He has a couple of cookery books already (such as Sam Stern) and has asked for the Great British Bake Off book. He has his own black apron already. So far so good. But any other ideas?

And digital photo frames - how easy is it to transfer photos to them from a camera? Are there any that should be avoided? MIL has a digital camera already, but doesn't really have access to a PC or laptop (thanks to her dp Hmm )

All advice gratefully received :)

Junior cookery lessons for Ds - theres a link here with some ideas
Or a food/baking magazine subscription
Loads of good cookery stuff in Lakeland I'm debating getting my DS2 this but it may be a bit babyish for an 11yr old.

FWIW I think the blowtorch is a good idea Smile

Regarding the photo frame - we bought one for MIL a few years ago but I can't remember which one it was. I think you can slot the camera memory card straight into the frame - which is fine, but means you can't use camera or need to get a spare memory card.

Hairy bikers book? My DS loves his.

I also think the blow torch sounds good, but then i got DS1 a black and decker jigsaw when he was 11!

When DS1 was 11 I bought him an icecream maker which he loves and still uses 2 years later. He loved getting an icing set (about £3 at wilkos!) and biscuit cutters - great stocking fillers. I'm getting him a breadmaker for christmas. I've considered getting him a blow torch but got him a cooks candle instead!!!

I got these earlier in the week and used them tonight - I'm still smiling :)

This is all great - thank you :)

I might reconsider the blow torch thing. Icing kit and cookie cutters are a fab idea. I really like that grater gadget - as a product it isn't babyish at all but the way they've marketed it is a bit young I think. I might look for something similar aimed at adults.

I'd not thought of lessons - there are some near us so I shall look into that further.

Love your name btw ptangyangkipperbang - I remember reading that many moons ago :)
